Extraterrestrial Life: What Does the Bible Say?
Is there extraterrestrial life in outer space? Unidentified flying objects (UFO's) have been spotted since ancient times. In 1917, a huge silver disk spun in the skies over Fatima, Portugal. The bizarre flying object took a plunge toward the earth, then ascended back toward the sun and vanished. The significant fact surrounding this event is that it was observed simultaneously by approximately 50,000 people. One person may be said to be delusional, but, an entire crowd is not, even when the subject is alien life.
It's recorded history that in 329 BC, Alexander the Great and his army were harassed by a group of strange discs in the sky, UFO's. The harassment was to such extent that his army battled against inexplicable aerial ships. Again, several people were simultaneous eye-witnesses of flying objects that have never been identified as anything produced on Earth. But, is this enough to say that there is extraterrestrial life?
These two instances figure among numerous sightings of UFO's that undeniably confirm three powerful facts:
1. Official UFO reports are made to appropriate authorities.
2. Reports are made by people of all nations, walks of life, and educational backgrounds.
3. Highly responsible people, including the scientifically trained, have made reports.
Such facts demand an acknowledgment of the existence of UFO's and extraterrestrial life. They also have prompted an arduous quest for proof of alien life on other planets. The fact is that such life has never been found and there is biblical reason to believe that it will never be found.
The Christian Bible on Extraterrestrial Life
Knowledge of God's word reveals that there are two forms of life--physical and spiritual. Among the scriptures that speak of physical life is Leviticus 17:11 that states that, "the life of the flesh is in the blood." The Bible also speaks of the very real existence of spiritual life that is undoubtedly intelligent. To have intelligence is to have knowledge, understanding, and information.
God himself is a Spirit (KJV, St. John 4:4). It is also repeatedly written that he is life (Gen. 2:7, St. John 5:26, Rev. 11:11). The scriptures teach that God is wise (1 Tim. 1:17, Jude 25). He is also invisible (Col. 1:15). It's therefore concluded that God is intelligent, all-wise, invisible life. Man is even reminded that the physical things in the earth are such convincing proof that he lives that it's foolish to deny his existence (Rom. 1:20, Psalm 14:1).
God is the source, breath, and Sustainer of all life, physical and spiritual. This is why it's not correct to think of him as a "form" of life, but rather as life itself (St. John 14:6). Of course, there are other spiritual beings apart from God. Could extraterrestrial life on UFO's figure among such beings? If so, they would be proof of alien life in other worlds.
Interestingly, many UFO reports of close encounters of at least the third kind, include direct messages that may be called teachings. Such messages often speak of man's need to "rediscover" that he is divine through the relearning of a lost, mystical wisdom that is of, and from the cosmos. According to these space beings and to religions based on teachings received from extraterrestrial life, Jesus was no different from any other man, except that he possessed a special cosmic knowledge. Although some UFO reports contain information about very violent encounters with alien life, others recount experiences of "enlightenment" on the meaning of life. Some extra-terrestrials have identified themselves as man's brethren who've come to aid them in the regaining of cosmic knowledge.
It must be noted that among the things that these beings teach is the denial of Christ Jesus as the Son of God. They deny his coming in the flesh. They deny the fall of man in the garden of Eden, thus, eliminating the need for a Savior. In essence, they preach a different gospel from that of the Bible. The apostle Paul warned that man is not to receive any other gospel than that of Jesus, whether it be preached by angels (spirits) or men (Gal. 1:8-9). The extraterrestrial life that teaches such falsehood are certainly intelligent beings--diabolical ones.
In I John 4.1-3, the Bible tells the Christian, "believe not every spirit, but try (test) the spirits whether they are of God because many false prophets are gone out into the world. Hereby (in this way), know ye the Spirit of God. Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God, and every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God. And this is that spirit of anti-Christ, whereof ye have heard that it should come, and even now already is it in the world."
Scientists continue their quest for proof of extraterrestrial life in space responsible for intelligent activity. However, having disregarded God's word, they remain baffled because they seek after life forms that are physical and based on organic compounds.
Remember that God is in the highest heaven, being called the "Most High God" (Gen.14:20), referring to both his position and holiness. God said that Earth is his footstool (Acts 7:49). Remember also that the fallen angels of the Satanic kingdom still have the liberty to dwell in the lower heavens where UFO's are spotted. One may conduct an in-depth study on the biblical references to the different heavens, but, such study is beyond the scope of this article.
The apostle Paul spoke of unholy, intelligent beings whose existence is quite real, but, not physical or natural. He even specifies that they inhabit the heavens in great multitudes and that they vehemently oppose the saints of God who enter into battle against them. This is a war that is such a reality that the Lord's servant is instructed to dress in real, but spiritual and supernatural armor. Paul warned the believer, teaching them that they, "wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." He continues his warning telling them, "take unto you the whole armor of God..." (Ephesians 6:12-13). This is biblical proof of extraterrestrial life--evil beings.
It should strike one as strange that in spite of the thousands of UFO reports and close encounters since the dawn of civilization, solid proof of the capture of an extra-terrestrial has never been gathered. No "flying saucer" has ever crashed, allowing for the recovery of debris from a wreckage. Certainly, they would have eventually been placed on exhibition for public display. Another question remains. If neither space beings nor their space ships are physical or natural, how can they be seen, and how can real encounters with them take place?
It must be kept in mind that demons, who are spirits, but very real in their existence, are not without the power to "materialize" in order to be seen by the physical eye. The Bible warns that demons are masters of deception with power to work signs and wonders and lying miracles to deceive those who willfully and persistently reject Jesus.
Paul warned in 2 Thessalonians 2:7-10 that, "...the mystery of iniquity doth already work.... And then shall that Wicked be revealed...whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, and with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish because they received not the love of the truth...."
Extraterrestrial life is demonic life.
