What Are Evil Angels?
Most People associate the word "angel" with the holy angelic beings in the kingdom of heaven or God. The word "devil" or "demon" is likewise associated with diabolical spiritual beings in the kingdom of Satan, also referred to as the kingdom of darkness. However, the Christian Bible does speak of evil angels because demons and devils are angelic beings who fell from grace during Lucifer's attempt to overthrow the throne of God. The scripture of Revelation 12:7-9 says, "And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon (Lucifer); and the dragon fought and his angels, and prevailed not; neither was their place found anymore in heaven. And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world. He was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him."
All angelic beings were originally in the kingdom of heaven, holy, and in service to God, including Lucifer. However, angels, like man, were created with free will. Some chose to side with Lucifer in the war against God and others remained faithful to the Lord. They are all still angels. Those who remain with God are holy angels and those who sided with Lucifer during the war in heaven are evil angels. This is why scripture says, "...and the Dragon fought and his ANGELS." And this is why the Christian believer is warned that, "...Satan himself is transformed into an ANGEL of light (Revelation 12:7-9, II Corinthians 11:14).
