Sextrology Signs: What Does the Christian Word of God Say?
What Is Sextrology?
According to the book, Sextrology: The Astrology Of Sex And The Sexes, by Starsky + Cox, this New Age form of astrology deserves attention. It is said to be an explanation of the astrological signs from the perspective of gender, and sexual identity and behavior. It might be said that it is a "sub-system" of astrology. Some people have taken an interest in sextrology signs, thinking that horoscopes might be more accurate than they are if they were written based on an individual's gender, not just on his or her sign of the zodiac.
Many people, including Christians who have denounced astrology based on scriptures such as Deuteronomy 18:10-12, admit that the signs of the zodiac are interesting. What is it that interests them? They admit that the characteristics and personality traits associated with the signs do appear to be true. For example, people born under the sign of Taurus the Bull can often be bull-headed. Virgos do tend to be perfectionists. Why then would the Lord who made celestial bodies, and mankind, forbid the study of astrology or of sextrology signs?
Is Seeking Understanding of Sextrology Signs Seeking God?
God does not accept his people seeking wisdom, counsel, or understanding about spiritual matters from any source except his word (himself). This includes seeking wisdom from and in the things that he made. So, when we seek wisdom from the cosmos and celestial bodes, we are not seeking the Lord. We are seeking a source of wisdom outside of himself.
We read, "...And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the Lord. But, the Lord was NOT in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was NOT in the earthquake: And after the earthquake a fire. But, the Lord was NOT in the fire: and after the fire, a still small voice. And it was so, when Elijah heard it that he...." (KJV, 1 Kings 19:11-13).
Just as the Lord who made the wind, fire, and earth was not in those natural things, likewise he is not in the natural celestial bodies he made. The Lord is in his own voice. He is in his word, who is Jesus, God who became flesh (St. John 1:1-14). The words of Jesus of Nazareth are recorded in the Christian Bible. We are told that our only true wisdom is the Word himself (1 Cor. 1:24).
If we seek wisdom in sextrology signs to learn how to improve ourselves, we miss knowing what God said about self-improvement. He did NOT tell man to improve. Man is to become a whole new creature through Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17). Belief in astrological signs confines us to live according to the "energies" that shape our being, according to the weaknesses dictated by the sign of the zodiac. The transformational power of Jesus is not subject to the "power" of the things he himself created, such as celestial bodies. Just as natural alcoholic wine can alter a person's personality, the spiritual wine of God (Isaiah 55:1) alters the new creature in Christ who is totally yielded to him.
The Final Conclusion on Astrology and Sextrology Signs
Also, horoscopes are a form of attempting to peer into the future. God's word says that we don't even know if we will live to see the very near future of tomorrow. We read, "For what is your life? It is even a vapour that appeareth for a little time and then vanisheth away. For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live and do this or that" (James 4:14-15).
The study of sextrology signs also focuses on the differences between males and females. The word of God focuses on obedience from both genders. We read, "...There is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus" (Galatians 3:28).
So many more examples could be given of the sharp disagreement there is between the teachings of astrology, sextrology signs, and the word of God.
