Become a Journalist Through Distance Education
Journalism is one of those degrees that can't really be earned at a two-year school. Some schools do offer an A.A. in pre-Journalism, but they're few in number. There are people who'd like to become a journalist, but can't or don't want to spend 4 - 5 years earning a B.A. The London School of Journalism just might be their answer. They offer three different degrees through distance education specializing in Journalism, Creative Writing and English and they accept students from all over the world into their correspondence/distance learning courses.
Graduates having earned a satisfactory standard are awarded a Diploma. If the student's work in Journalism has been consistently above average he receives a Diploma with Distinction. A Diploma with Honors is earned by students who demonstrate exceptionally high skill in the field.
The BBC and CNN are just two of the major employers on a long list that, according to the London School of Journalism, hire their graduates often before graduation. The distance education courses in Journalism are self-paced but must be completed within twenty-four months. Although the London School of Journalism offers these courses by correspondence through email or regular post, the stigma usually attached to distance education isn't there. Why? Because the school is a real brick and mortar school in the city of London that has been training people who want to become a journalist for eighty years and is accredited by the Open & Distance Learning Quality Council.
American students can study Journalism at this school for literally a fraction of the cost of a degree from a university in the United States. The school is open Monday thru Thursday from 9:00am until 9:00pm and until 4:00pm on Fridays. Their staff answers the phones and are very helpful.
