Sikhism Beliefs: Not that Different from Christian Beliefs?

cross.jpg

Understandably, many people are confused regarding the marked differences between Sikhism beliefs and Christian beliefs, because the two doctrines do appear to have much in common. One of the simplest ways to quickly see that Sikhism and Christianity do not share the same foundation is by looking at the teachings of both sides. Therefore, we present an eye-opening comparison below.

Sikhism Beliefs and Christian Beliefs: One God

Followers of the Sikh religion and followers of Christ believe in one God. Could the god of believers in Sikhism possibly be the same God that Christian serve? No, it is not possible. We know that the deity of Sikhism is not the Lord of the Christian faith, because the one has a Son and the other does not. A man either has a son or he does not have one. There is no middle ground. A man is a father or he is not a father; it is as simple as that.

Sikhism beliefs do not embrace worship of the Lord who has a son. The God of Israel (composed of natural and spiritual Jews), does indeed have a Son, Christ Jesus. And, his word tells us that he and his Son are one. The word of God tells us that we cannot have fellowship with the Father if we deny the Son. Likewise, we cannot have fellowship with the Son if we deny the Father. We read, "Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son. Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath NOT the Father..." (KJV, 1 John 2:22-23).

Keeping in mind the fact that Jesus is the Author and Finisher of the Christian faith, in other words, the very foundation, Sikhism beliefs are rooted in an entirely different foundation.

Life after Death

Followers of the Sikh religion believe in reincarnation, a cycle of rebirths until a person finally achieves perfection in his or her life on Earth. Once this right living is achieved, he or she will be worthy to become one with God, which is freedom from the cycle of rebirths. This is another one of the Sikhism beliefs that totally contradict the scriptures of the Christian Bible.

We read, "...It is appointed unto men ONCE to die, but after this the judgment" (Hebrews 9:27). This is only one of a number of Old and New Testament scriptures that clearly teach against belief in reincarnation.

Defending Sikhism Beliefs by the Sword

Followers of the Sikh doctrine at various times in history became targets of acts of violence and scorn. Some refused to suffer persecution for their religion. Understandably, some dedicated believers decided to defend their faith even if their defense called for fighting fire with fire. They would defend Sikhism beliefs by the sword if necessary.

When the Lord Jesus returns to establish his eternal kingdom on the new earth, he will destroy those who have persisted in being his enemies. And, the saints will fight with him in the power he gave to them. All opposition to Christ will be crushed for eternity. However, that time has NOT yet come. How does what Christ teaches his disciples regarding religious persecution compare with Sikhism beliefs regarding defense of one's faith? In the Bible we read of when one of Christ's disciples, Peter, attempted to fight religious persecution by the sword. In the New Testament books of Matthew and Luke we read of when the soldiers came to capture Jesus. Below we have included the specific passage that speaks of how one of Jesus' disciples desired to defend the faith by the sword.

We read, "And, behold, one of them which were with Jesus stretched out his hand, and drew his sword and struck a servant of the high priest's, and smote (cut) off his ear. Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword" (Matthew 26:51-51). This is in sharp contrast to how faith is to be defended according to Sikhism beliefs.

But, What About the Good of Sikhism?

Followers of the Sikh doctrine believe in social equality and in rejecting the evil of the oppressive caste system of India. They believe in helping others so much so that many choose to practice professions that benefit mankind. What could possibly be wrong with that? Who could find any fault in such good things?

Remember that true Christian beliefs are based on the scriptures of the Bible, which warn of the seriousness of rejecting the Son of God, Christ Jesus. Rejection of the truth that Jesus is God who came to Earth in the flesh is the work of the spirit of antiChrist (1 John 4:1-3). By no means does that mean that every person who adheres to Sikhism beliefs is antichrist. Many have not yet heard the gospel of Jesus; therefore, they are simply following the only doctrine they know.

That does not, however, change the truth that there is a spirit of antichrist behind Sikhism beliefs or any belief system that refuses to acknowledge that the Lord of all creation has a Son, the Lord Jesus. The spirit of antichrist is a ferocious enemy of mankind. And, that spirit seeks, at all costs, to keep people away from the only one who is the Savior: JESUS. The scriptures of the Bible strongly and repeatedly warn us that the enemy, Satan, is a master of deception (Revelation 12:9).

Part of his deception is to present what is good to align what is antichrist with what is NOT of God. This is why we are told that the Devil himself can, and does, appear as an angel! We read, "...Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light" (2 Corinthians 11:14).

Salvation for followers of Sikhism Beliefs

The word of the living God, the Holy Bible, is the ONLY set of scriptures in the world, and the only scriptures that have ever existed that teach things that no other sacred writings teach. And, the wisdom of God's word was recorded before any other religious writings. The holy scriptures teach with inexplicable accuracy the hard and soft sciences, mathematics, history, pre-history; and it is replete with fulfilled prophecies. Those prophecies are not ambiguous and shrouded in mystery like the "prophecies" of Nostradamus. Biblical prophecies include many details. Would a God who does not really know the future chance having details included in his prophecies? No, he would not, because the more details given the less room for error.

The sacred writings that back Sikhism beliefs cannot even begin to compare with the sacred writings of the Old and New Testaments. Read of the astounding facts and wisdom contained in the Bible by following the links we've provided below. There is no God outside of the God who has a Son, Christ Jesus. There is no salvation through the cessation of reincarnation, because the all wise God of the Bible has revealed that reincarnation is a falsehood from the spirit of antichrist. The word of the God of Israel has revealed that man's good works cannot save him; he needs a Savior. The only Savior of the world is the Son of God. All of these things are why Sikhism beliefs are not Christian beliefs. Followers of the Sikh religion who are curious about who Jesus really is are more than welcome to ask their questions.

Hi, thank you for writing such descriptive thesis on how two religions are different. when followers such as author of this article, and someone who has with pride published the on the internet, is the reason why there is hatred and fights in the world.
This article is an absolute insult to sikhism and I believe this not what christianity or other religions promote.
What are the good points of sikhism?? are you joking? with your very limited understanding and most of it wrong anyway, I have found this article much of a joke. Please read up on sikhism and have your facts correct. to call another religion antichrist because of not supporting christianity, or jesus? Ha, so funny!!!
sikhism to do not promote fighting with swords for religion!!! Sikhism teaches to fight for injustice and to stand up for the poor and helpless.
please stop expanding differences and hatred in the name of religion. you know what, God is ONE.. hindu, islam, sikhism, judaism, and christianity, all have ONE GOD. Only the messengers for them were different, so people could relate better. whoever authored and published this content has been silly and does not know anything about humanity forget religion! silly nincompoop!!!!

Your problem is NOT with the author of the article, it is with the Word of God, because God says, "Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son. Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath NOT the Father..." (KJV, 1 John 2:22-23)." That is God's Word, not ours. YOU confirmed in your comments that Sikhism does NOT support Jesus, which is the same thing the article says. Where is the inaccuracy? Also, Jesus said, "He that is not with me is AGAINST me" (Mat. 12:30). Again, YOU confirmed that followers of Sikhism are NOT with Jesus. Therefore, YOU confirmed the accuracy of the article. Attempting to call hatred what is truth and fact will not change the truth that the God behind the scriptures of the Holy Bible is NOT the god behind other religions. That's why they are OTHER religions; it's not a hard concept to grasp. Consider that the Koran orders the killing of Jews and Christians. The Bible says the exact opposite. How can you or anyone else deny the reality that the spirit behind the Koran is NOT the Spirit behind the Bible? You have not proven that anything said in the article is untrue or inaccurate. In fact, you confirmed accuracy. You simply don't like the Word of God. We pray one day before you leave this world that you receive the Word of the one before whom "EVERY knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus is Lord" (Romans 14:11).

I do not want to start or enter into any religious arguments.

I will state this that this article is written with a biased mindset. The information provided here is incorrect and incomplete.

Spreading misinformation is worse than knowing nothing!

This article is indeed erroneous, regarding both the Christian and Sihk side of things.

To start with, the Sikhs do believe in the same God as Christians, Muslims, etc - they simply don't believe he has a son.
Then, Sikhs are against violence, and only use it as a last resort; as do Christians. In reply to your comment, where you state that the Koran orders the killing of people of other religions, may I point to the Bible, which orders the death of those who are not Christians? Have a look at Deuteronomy 13, just as one example.

It is not a comparison of Sikhism and Christianity if you quote the Bible and say it is the only source of truth. Doing that is simply your belief that Christianity is "right" and Sikhism is "wrong".

To LC:

Muslims, Sihks, and Christians all believe in the same God, except that Muslims and Sihks don't believe He has a Son? Continue reading, and you will see that that statement is ilogical.

When Jesus was baptized, we read: And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved SON, in whom I am well-pleased (Matthew 3:17).

The God of Christianity called Jesus His Son, but you claim Muslims and Sihks, who deny the Son, believe in that same God. If you truly believe Him, you believe what He says. He told you He has a Son. But you continue to say He doesn't have a Son. Therefore, how do you claim to believe Him when you won't believe what He says?

Will you argue that perhaps the voice was not God's voice? If so, who do you think was speaking from heaven? And don't forget the scripture that directly tells us God has a Son.

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten SON, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life (St. John 3:16).

Only unless you answer the legitimate question above will your question about violence and Deuteronomy be addressed. Why? Because the Son of God is the foundation of the Christian faith. If you won't even accept the foundation, why offer you anything else?

But you see, you claim that the Scripture is the absolute truth, the word of God. Sikhs, Muslims, etc do not believe that, so your method of "proof" is invalid to them.

And in response to your last paragraph, it doesn't seem very charitable or Christian, to me, to deny a person struggling to find their path, an answer to a simple question.

You are the one who maintained that Muslims, Sikhs, and others believe in the God of Christianity, yet you refuse to accept the Word of that same God as proof that He has a Son. If you do not believe the Bible, you do not believe the God whose Spirit is behind the Bible, which declares: "ALL scripture is given by inspiration of God..." (2 Timothy 3:16). Inspiration means God is behind the scriptures that say He has a Son. Why do you want to attach yourself to a God whose Word you refuse to believe? No one else is denying you. You are denying yourself the opportunity to learn His Word, and come into the knowledge of truth. One thing you might want to keep in mind is that God sees every time any of us reject His truth. And He issues a very solemn warning: "Today if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts..." (Hebrews 3:7-8). Why? Because God sees every time He reaches out to us. He sees when we're genuinely confused, and He sees when we willfully reject His Son, the only salvation for the world...a very dangerous spiritual condition.
What are some of the things that prove the Bible is God's Word? If you're interested in truth, as you claim, you will follow this link, and scroll to the heading that says: STATEMENTS

(If the comments close at ten, I would appreciate it if we could continue this conversation by email. I have put my real address in the email box this time.)

But it is perfectly possible to believe in God without believing that the Bible is His word. Yes, it SAYS in the Bible that the text is the word of God, but people choose not to believe that the same way they can choose to (not) believe anything else.
