Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
ICE stands for "In Case of Emergency" and is an entry that should be in the address book of everyone who carries a cell phone on his or her person or in a purse. An accident can occur suddenly and tragedy can develop rapidly and unexpectedly in anyone's life. Accidents and tragedies can prove fatal no matter how much preparation is made before hand. However, that doesn't mean that preparation shouldn't be made. To make an ICE entry, you can make an entry like the example below:
ICE: 517-123-4567 (This tells the person looking at the entry to call 517-123-4567 in case of an emergency.)
Although the effects of technology on society are usually negative, there are some positive influences it has made. For example, the invention of the cell phone and the programming that was required to "equip" it with an address book can and has been most useful when there is a case of emergency. Of course, technology was not needed to have ICE (in case of emergency). Address books were paper and they served very well. But, if you're just going to carry a cell phone, it's nice know what ICE means.
Many people are walking around everyday with life-threatening health conditions of which they are completely unaware until the signs and symptoms loom before them and are manifested in their body. There also are various medical conditions such as diabetes that, when not properly managed, can lead to an altered mental status. Emergency medical technicians (EMTs), paramedics, and other health care providers can test the blood sugar level of a person and treat for diabetic emergencies. Nevertheless, it's always best to be able to talk to someone who can answer important questions asked for medical assessment and interventions. This is where ICE - in case of emergency can proove very helpful.
Relatives should have valuable information about medical history and prescription medications that the patient takes. They should also know about any allergies, events that might have led to the accident or sickness, the patient's last oral intake, and the name of their relative's doctor.
Again, the ICE entry is very simple, just those three letters capitalized are used. They serve as the generic "name" for a contact when saving the entry in your cell phone's electronic address book. Just as you can save more than one number for someone, you can do the same for your ICE contact. A police officer or rescuer won't know the name of the person or people he would be contacting, but he would at least know that he's contacting the right party in the case of an emergency with which he's dealing. If you're found with an altered mental status or unconscious, your cell phone with an entry of ICE in the address book can allow the individual/s you've designated to speak for you if you can't speak for yourself. In times past when this technology didn't exist, people, especially those who lived in smaller towns, were more civil towards one another. There was a friendlier atmosphere and neighbors who often were of help to those who weren't relatives or friends. The technology of cell phones, which allows ICE, is a way of making it easier for someone to get in touch with friends and relatives.
Based on true events, The Third Man by Angela Sheffield, brings the Bible up close and personal as the characters face real issues of life: Betrayal, deceit, romance, bitterness, anger against God, hopelessness, will power, perplexity, triumph, unforgiveness, mental illness, and the "Alcohol made me do it" excuse.
