Christians Beware: Satan Attacks the Mind - Part II
Note: If you have not read part I of Christians Beware: Satan Attacks the Mind, we strongly recommend that you do so in order to get the most benefit from this two-part article.
Satan Attacks the Mind Through Rationale
One of the principle reasons for which many people, including true Christians, fail to recognize demonic mind control in the form of defeating thoughts is because the thoughts appear completely rational. For example, someone who suffered
child abuse might reason that God does not love him, because, if he did, he would not have allowed him to be abused as a child. When he reads in the Bible that God is
love, he might be inclined to think, "That is a lie!" Nine times out of ten he will not associate such a thought with the truth that Satan attacks the mind. It makes sense, according to his rationale, that his child abuse is reality; therefore, God's word must be a lie.
He might read in the Bible that the Lord is incapable of a lie(Titus 1:2). Nevertheless, he can just as easily say to himself that he is incapable of forgetting the child abuse he suffered. But, it is not merely his rationale speaking. Satan attacks the mind where he and/or demonic spirits wage war against the truth of the word of God by offering what they tell the person are valid and rational reasons why he should not trust or obey God. There probably are literally hundreds of real-life situations that can be illustrated with this scenario. When Satan attacks the mind, only the power and authority in Jesus are strong enough to resist against the accusations against God's character that seem to be so true.
Waging War Against Demonic Mind Control
How do you guard your heart and mind when Satan attacks the mind? There are five things that the believer must do when he finds himself engaged in such a battle:
1. Recognize that every thought that attacks the truth and character of God is of the enemy, no matter how sound the rational behind it may appear.
2. Maintain proper fear of the Lord even when you are in the midst of great anger against him. This is very powerful to prevent you from thinking, and worse, letting anything come out of your mouth in anger against God. Satan attacks the mind to steal, kill, and destroy your relationship with Jesus, your very salvation. This is the ultimate of his sinister goals (1 Peter 5:8).
3. Repent and ask the Lord for forgiveness for your sin against him and ask him for cleansing. He is full of mercy. We read, "For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him" (Psalm 103:11). We also read, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9).
4. Don't try to resist the enemy in your OWN strength; you will not win. In other words, attempting to "out-think" demonic spirits is sure defeat. Squeezing your eyes shut and fervently repeating scripture from the Bible won't magically give you victory. This won't "silence" powerful demonic "voices" that so cleverly point out how God is not true. However, rebuke in Jesus' name will silence them. How do you do this when Satan attacks the mind? We read in Luke 4:33-35 that, "...There was a man which had a spirit of an unclean devil, and cried out with a loud voice, saying, Let us alone. What have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? ...And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace (be silent)...." The very same truth of the need to silence demonic spirits is seen in St. Mark 1:23-25. The believer in Christ can silence mental suggestions from wicked spirits by telling them to be silent and to leave him alone IN THE NAME OF JESUS. Just as Christ himself and his followers spoke to demonic spirits in an audible voice, believers are to do the same. You don't have to shout and you don't need a script to follow. It's a simple matter of using the
authority in Jesus' name to silence satanically inspired thoughts, because you cannot reason against them.
5. Finally, put into your mind the type of food that should be nourishing it: the word of God. We are told, "Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of a good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, THINK on these things" (Philippians 4:8).
When Satan attacks the mind, we must do all of these things to avoid succumbing to his great deception. When Satan attacks the mind, King Jesus is there to defend us, but we must cooperate with him through obedience. Guard your heart and your mind in
Christ Jesus.
Based on true events, The Third Man by Angela Sheffield, brings the Bible up close and personal as the characters face real issues of life: Betrayal, deceit, romance, bitterness, anger against God, hopelessness, will power, perplexity, triumph, unforgiveness, mental illness, and the "Alcohol made me do it" excuse.
