¿Qué tiene que ver conmigo? por Teófila Gottfried
Lo que leemos en la Biblia tiene que ver con todos los seres humanos, sean cristianos o judíos, ateos o agnósticos, budistas, musulmanes o adherentes a alguna de las filosofías o nuevas religiones que surgen en el mundo. ¿Por qué? Ver mayor información sobre este interesante libro.
Scripture of The Day - 1 John 4:1
Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world
Escritura del día - 1 Juan 4,1
Amados, no creáis a todo espíritu, sino probad los espíritus si son de Dios; porque muchos falsos profetas han salido por el mundo.
Bibelstelle des Tages - 1 Johannes 4,1
Geliebte, glaubet nicht jedem Geist, sondern prüfet die Geister, ob sie von Gott sind! Denn es sind viele falsche Propheten hinausgegangen in die Welt.
What Does the Bible Say About the Power of Words?
The Power of Words to Bless
The scripture of Genesis 1:22 is the earliest record of a blessing by the spoken word. It reads, "And God blessed them, SAYING, Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas and let fowl multiply in the earth." Although Genesis 1:22 reveals the power of words spoken by God, the Christian Bible is by no means silent about the spoken word pronounced by man.
We see that man was given power by God to bless and also to curse. "But the tongue can no man tame. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God. Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing..." (James 3:6-10). We plainly see the power of words that lies in the tongue; which has the power to kill; a deadly poison causes death. Just as words can make someone's day, they can kill someone's inspiration if he has a weak mind that easily succumbs to the words of others. We also see in the passage of James 3:6-10 that man can bless with the spoken word.
The Power of Words to Curse
Again, the scripture in James clearly teaches that man can both bless and curse with his spoken words. This is revealed in the Old and New Testaments. Genesis 9:25 is the record of when Noah cursed his grandson, Canaan, saying, "...Cursed by Canaan, a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren." The words pronounced by Noah came to pass on Canaan and his descendants. Although it's not the focus of this article, many will understandably ask, "Isn't it unfair of God to let Noah curse Canaan's descendants before they're even born?" All who ask this question are highly advised to read, The Bible on Destiny and Fate to learn how a woman who was born into a race of people forbidden from entering the congregation of Israel ended up in the family tree of the Lord Jesus.
Death by the Power of Words
Spiritual, and sometimes physical death, is the result of
blasphemy of the Holy Ghost, which can be committed with spoken words. Jesus said, "...Whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him, but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come" (Matthew 12:32).
Beware of the Power of Idle Words
Many people, including Christian believers, are much to careless in their speech. This carelessness, however, does not change the truth that Christ warned, "But I say unto you that every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned" (Matthew 12:36-37).
A good number of so-called
Christian jokes are idle words that should not be spoken. Normal, everyday life presents man with truly hilarious scenarios as is evident in the real life accounts of such scenarios published in publications such as Readers Digest.
Deadly Worship in the Power of Words
Revelation 13:4 says, "And they worshiped the beast, SAYING, Who is like unto the beast? Who is able to make war with him? This is one of a number of scriptures that teach that words of praise are words of worship. The people who speak such praises about the beast do not have their names written in the book of life (Revelation 13:8). The true
children of God know that Jesus is not only able to make war with the beast, he will cast him, along with
Satan, and the false prophet into the lake of fire and brimstone (Revelation 20:10).
Considering man's power to speak blessings and curses, aren't we all vulnerable to the whimsical curses of
evil men? No, we are not.
Heavenly Manna uses scripture from the Christian Bible to reveal God's instruction on the limitations of the power of the spoken word of man.
