¿Qué tiene que ver conmigo? por Teófila Gottfried
Lo que leemos en la Biblia tiene que ver con todos los seres humanos, sean cristianos o judíos, ateos o agnósticos, budistas, musulmanes o adherentes a alguna de las filosofías o nuevas religiones que surgen en el mundo. ¿Por qué? Ver mayor información sobre este interesante libro.

How Do I Become a Translator?
Are you one of literally hundreds of thousands of people who are asking: How do I become a translator? If so, prepare to accept that the answers to that question are many. This is because your goals, geographic location, decision regarding whether you want to work part or full-time, the language/s you will be working with, as well as many other factors have to be considered. Please note that in dealing with the question: How do I become a translator? We are referring specifically to working with modern (foreign) languages, not to sign languages. Also, keep in mind that we are speaking of translation, not interpretation. Not all translators have the skill to be interpreters. Translation is the written form of interpretation (oral).
Know the Demand for Your Language Pair
We have to face the fact that some language pairs are much more popular than others. Consequently, they are not nearly as much in demand as less popular language pairs. For example, the services of translators and interpreters who translate from Spanish into English or from English into Spanish simply are not in the demand that the services for those who work with other language pairs are. When asking, "How do I become a translator" with the Spanish<>English pair, you might have to make adjustments that translators of other languages might not have to make. For example, many who work with this language pair have had to lower their prices.
Into or from Which Language?
There are many people who would like to translate into a language they have learned. However, this can be a huge challenge. Why? Because a good number of customers, particularly those who are business men and women, require that translated work be performed by a native speaker. The reasons behind this certainly are valid. Few people who learn a foreign language ever achieve speaking or writing it with the same "skill" as native speakers. So, you might be wondering: "How do I become a translator who translates into the language I learned, not into my native language?" You might not achieve this unless, and until you can prove that you can handle the learned language like a college-educated native.
Professional Training
Many are asking: How do I become a translator with a translation/interpretation agency? Most all of the large, legitimate agencies require a college degree, specialized translator training, certification by a reputable agency, and five or more years of professional experience.
You might not find it realistic to take almost as many years as it takes to become a medical doctor, just to become a translator. And, that's understandable. Also, specialized translation training does not ensure that a person will provide "good" translations. There are many amateurs who can translate extremely well--on the professional level. Most cannot obtain employment with the world's leading translation/interpretation agencies.
Sometimes, there are even problems with obtaining certification, because the examiner of tests is not alway unbiased. However, certification is a HUGE plus when asking: How do I become a translator?
Experience, Experience, and More Experience!
Yes, everyone wants you to have experience, which is perfectly understandable. But, how do you get that experience if no one is willing to give you a chance? Consider becoming a volunteer translator with an organization who will give you a professional reference. If you work with the Spanish<>English pair, you might want to consider volunteering with us. We have professional translators on board whose native languages are Spanish, English, and French. Although we specialize in Christian material, we publish much content that is not religious. Simply,
contact us about your interests in gaining experience with us. Please note that you will be tested on a short piece before being accepted as a volunteer translator.
How Do I Become a Translator to Work for Myself?
This is the dream of many people who would prefer not, or cannot work for established agencies. However, this is extremely difficult to do, but not impossible. First, obtain certification to show some kind of proof that you are a professional translator. Also, you will need as many legitimate references that can be verified as you can obtain. You might want to consider keeping your fees below those of the big, domineering translation agencies. Finally, you must get the word out in massive advertisements that reach beyond your nation's borders. Without money, this is virtually impossible. But, keep in mind that the world is growing smaller and smaller in the sense that almost everything is becoming international. At the same time, there is a prevailing attitude in people, including business people, that translations should be virtually free.
Automated Translations Taking Over?
There is great disagreement regarding whether the threat of free, automated translators such as Google Translate pose any real threat to the profession. We believe that there is. We cannot deny that many websites and blog owners now rely on free translations done by software rather than pay for even the most economical translations. How do I become a translator when competing with machines?
Remember that not everyone can afford to trust their content to a robot or to a piece of software, because they must maintain a professional image. Again, we have found that automated translations into some languages (the popular ones) is much more developed than others. Spanish, French, Portuguese, and Italian are on our "list." It is a good idea to consider all of these things when asking: How do I become a translator?
