Is There Such a Thing As Neutral Supernatural Beings?
Spiritual Beings: The Good, the Evil, and the--Neutral?
Many people, including Christians, have a very superficial understanding of the Bible. Therefore, when speaking of supernatural beings, they tend to think of the angels of God as good and the powers, principalities, and rulers of darkness in Satan's kingdom as evil. It is, however, understandable why some have asked and continue to ask if spiritual beings can be neutral. What does the Bible say?
Wisdom in the Bible is presented in various ways. The scriptures make direct statements about some things, uses symbols to teach other truths, instructs in righteousness through example and "demonstrates" what obedience and disobedience to God is through the short short stories or parables of Jesus. If study of God's word isn't conducted with a mind desirous to be taught by him, many lessons of great value will forever remain elusive.
So, How Do the Scriptures Answer This Question?
The New Testament passage of I Corinthians 10:20 reads, "But I say that the things which the gentiles (pagans or heathens) sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils and not to God and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils." Again, close attention must be paid when not just reading, but studying the word of God. Does the apostle Paul make any mention of sacrifices being made to supernatural beings other than devils or God? Does he even slightly suggest that sacrifices might be made to neutral spiritual beings? No, he doesn't. He can't be any clearer when he teaches that sacrifices are made either to God or to idols which are, in reality, devils. The Bible, from cover to cover, assures readers that devils aren't neutral and God certainly isn't neutral.
The 21st verse of the same chapter in I Corinthians reveals, "Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of devils. Ye cannot be partakers of the Lord's table and of the table of devils." Again, the apostle of Christ speaks of only two types of supernatural spirits--devils and the Spirit of the Lord or the Lord himself. Does he make mention of any other type of being that isn't God or a devil? No, he doesn't. As he's giving vital instruction to Christian believers he's being very thorough and direct. If those servants of God also need to know how to deal or avoid dealing with neutral spirits, why doesn't he mention this?
Against Christ or on His Side
Jesus said in Matthew 12:30, "He that is not with me is against me and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad." If Jesus has categorized every man as being with or against him, it's not strange that spiritual beings have been categorized as either evil or good, but never as neutral. The Savior even repeated his teaching when he declared that a man, who also has a spirit, either gathers with him or scatters abroad. This truth doesn't mean that everyone who isn't a servant of Christ will appear to be an enemy or even
hostile to Christianity. However, how something or someone appears to man seldom has the same appearance to God. There are many more scriptures that unmask the error of assuming that there's a middle ground when it comes to the spirit realm. The mid point between hot and cold is warm and
Jesus said, "...I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue (spit) thee out of my mouth (not accept your straddle of the line)" (Revelation 3:15-16).
Based on true events, The Third Man by Angela Sheffield, brings the Bible up close and personal as the characters face real issues of life: Betrayal, deceit, romance, bitterness, anger against God, hopelessness, will power, perplexity, triumph, unforgiveness, mental illness, and the "Alcohol made me do it" excuse.
