Do Vampires Exist in the Real World?
Vampires exist in Hollywood, as do werewolves, roaming mummies, zombies, mermaids and every other type of beast imaginable. But what about the existence of these creatures, in particular the vampire, in the real world? Some people who have become so fascinated with vampirism have formed societies whose members practice such things as the drinking of blood (including human blood), sleeping in a coffin and moving about at night rather than during the day. So, are we to say that vampires do exist simply because some people have attempted to align their behavior and lifestyle with what they've seen in Hollywood vampire movies? The answer to that question is a matter of opinion.
What is not a matter of opinion is the truth that Hollywood style vampirism is an impossibility. Movie vampires not only drink blood, they drink it to continue living their undead "life" -- which also requires that they stay out of sunlight. Every person a vampire bites dies and returns to "life" as a vampire. They are repelled by the crucifix and garlic. They have no reflection in a mirror, do not eat regular food and, most importantly, they are the undead. The particulars may vary slightly, but we can be certain that we can answer this question negatively: Do vampires exist? Absolutely not.
The Undead: Satanic Eternal Life?
The most disturbing make-believe power given to vampires is their state of being undead -- souls that have died but live on under strange conditions. As ridiculous as this might sound to many people, there are those who wonder if the undead might really exist because they believe that departed spirits remain among or can periodically visit the living. This is almost always true in the movies, where vampires do exist. However, we know that there is no such thing as the undead because the word of God tells us so. The biblical scripture of Hebrews 9:27 teaches, "...It is appointed unto men ONCE to die, but after this the judgment." We do not read that departed spirits are granted time to freely roam the earth intervening with the lives of the living while awaiting judgment.
Do vampires exist? No, there are no souls that die, escape judgment, and come to live again as the undead on the earth. But what about the real-life stories of people who have talked to a spirit which looked and sounded like a deceased relative or friend?
