True Mysterious Vanishings: Is There a Biblical Explanation?
Real Life Magic and Disappearing Acts
An integral part of doing magic tricks involves amusing an audience by making things, or a person, appear or disappear. All of the world's great magicians mastered the art of creating illusions to accomplish things such as causing mysterious vanishings. However, illusionists only practice "pretend" magic. Let's not forget that there is the world of real magic in which real magicians, witches, warlocks, and sorcerers practice the real thing--not tricks. Does this mean that they or the spirits with whom they collaborate are behind what happened to vanished people? Can they really make things and people "disappear" into thin air, which appears to be the case in the true stories that are told in the One Step Beyond Episodes dealing with vanishings?
The Word of God on Mysterious Vanishings
The Old and New Testaments of the Christian Bible reveal that the practice of real magic was, is, and will be a reality until the return of Christ. The spirits behind the practice of magic and sorcery, as well as the paranormal activity they cause, are dealt with in a variety of our articles on the paranormal. Please see the links to some of that content at the end of this article.
The subject of vanished people certainly is considered in the realm of the paranormal. But, the first question we raise and answer from biblical scripture is whether mysterious vanishings are even possible? When we say "possible," we refer to the thought of someone literally ceasing to exist or being taken to another world to live. Vanished people have not ceased to be in existence, because of the truth we have in the scripture of Ecclesiastes 3:14. We learn that, "...whatsoever God doeth, it shall be forever, nothing can be put to it, nor anything taken from it. And, God doeth it that men should fear before him."
The scripture of Ecclesiastes 3:14 is one of the basic laws of physics that says that matter (things) can neither be created nor destroyed. Only the Lord can actually speak things and people into and out of existence. No man and no spirit, outside of the Holy Spirit of God, has the power to make anything literally come to exist or to go away in a "poof."
Is it possible that vanished people have been abducted by spirits who have taken them to live in another world? The Christian Bible has given us two truths that refute such a theory. First, we know that Adam and Eve were the first people (Adam was made first) created by God. The Lord made their bodies suited for life specifically on planet Earth (see the first chapter of the book of Genesis). We read, "The heaven, even the heavens, are the Lord's. But, the EARTH hath he given to the children of men" (Psalm 115:16).
Man cannot take up residence in any world outside of planet Earth. His physical body, outside of a highly specialized space suit, cannot survive on any of the other planets or in outer space. Could it be that the soul and spirit of vanished people are what dwell in some other world after their physical body dies upon being taken to that other world? This also is an impossibility, because the word of God teaches us that the spirit of a dead person returns to the Lord who gave it (Ecclesiastes 12:7).
None of the vanished people who have actually died can move freely about the earth, nor any other world. Their spirit returned to the Lord, and is completely under his control. Focus on the question of the deceased being among the living is thoroughly dealt with in Spirits of the Deceased So, we won't repeat those teachings here.
Two conclusions we have:
1. Vanished people have not ceased to exist as in a literal vanishing of their body and spirit.
2. Vanished people are not living in alien worlds.
Mysterious Vanishings in the Christian Bible
Does the word of God give any accounts of vanished people? Yes, it does. We read, "And all the days of Enoch were three hundred sixty and five years. And Enoch walked with God. And, he was not; for God took him" (Genesis 5:23-24).
The words, "he was not," literally mean "disappeared." Enoch disappeared; he vanished. To the people of his day, he disappeared into thin air. He certainly would have joined the list of vanished people of those times. What happened to Enoch? Scripture explains that, "God took him." Why did God take him? We do not know that, because the scriptures do not reveal to us what was in the Lord's mind when he took his servant. However, we are told that Enoch "walked with God." This gives us to know that he had an extremely close relationship with the Lord.
Satan, the archenemy of Christ, attempts to cause people to believe that he can do all the things that God can do. Part of his deceptive work involves imitating the power and authority of God. This is why he sometimes transforms himself into an angel of light (2 Cor. 11:14).
But, the question is one of whether evil spirits can be behind mysterious vanishings, including vanished people? It can be said that NOT ALL, but SOME of the people who have disappeared, "walked" with evil spirits in that they pursued "oneness" with unholy entities. Some of those entities were known as the Great Maitreya, enlightened aliens, the universal mind, etc. Others who are on the list of vanished people were among those who were suicidal such as was the case in the One Step Beyond episode, Vanishing Point. One Step Beyond episodes are the accounts of real life events. They have not been fictionalized.
At least three people vanished in the house in that episode. One was a teacher, the other two were husband and wife. What all three had in common was severe hopelessness. But, even if there was an evil entity in the house that drove them to commit suicide, what happened to the bodies that they were never found? Could it be that evil spirits in the house removed the bodies? Do we have any reason to believe that stealing a corpse is anything that an evil spirit would even do?
In the Bible we read, "Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him, a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee" (Jude 9).
For what reason did the devil want to steal the corpse of Moses? Whatever the reason, it was not a good one.
Based on true events, The Third Man by Angela Sheffield, brings the Bible up close and personal as the characters face real issues of life: Betrayal, deceit, romance, bitterness, anger against God, hopelessness, will power, perplexity, triumph, unforgiveness, mental illness, and the "Alcohol made me do it" excuse.
