The Christian Bible on Astral Travel
What Is Astral Travel?
Believers in the New Age, Hinduism, Mysticism, and many other "isms" believe that all beings have what's known as an "astral" body that is housed inside the physical body. They teach that a person can learn how to control his astral body through the practice of Eastern forms of meditation and hypnosis. Once control is achieved, astral travel or an out-of-body experience to the third dimension at will is made possible. The third dimension is defined as a world in which the limitations of space, gravity, and time are non-existent. It's also believed to be a "sea" of hidden knowledge and wisdom because permanent death of the physical body is considered to be no more than a permanent out-of-body experience. This is why astral travel has been accepted by many people as a way of "cheating" death.
The Christian Bible on the Astral Body
New Agers often will refer to the astral body as the "consciousness." What does the word of God say about the physical, mental, and spiritual make-up of man? The apostle Paul told Christian believers in Thessalonica, "...I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ" (KJV, 2 Thessalonians 5:23).
The scripture of 2 Thessalonians 5:23 teaches that man is a three part being consisting of a physical body, a soul, which is his consciousness, and a spiritual body. We know that when believers in astral travel speak of the travel of a person's "consciousness," they're not speaking of travel of the mind or thoughts, but of an actual spiritual body that exits the physical body. This is precisely why astral travel is called and out-of-BODY experience. The consciousness wouldn't need to exit the body to travel to other lands and through time. We can imagine other lands and time periods without having an out-of-body experience. what they call the astral body is called the spirit in the Christian Bible. One of many examples of this is the scripture of 2 Thessalonians 5:23 that was previously mentioned.
The Will of God Concerning Out-of-Body Experiences
God does not want man to control his spirit body; this is for man's protection. When man defies these limitations imposed by God, he places himself in contact with unholy spirits and sinks deeper into deception. Self control of the spirit body is achieved through the practice of Eastern forms of meditation and hypnosis--practices that are in sharp disagreement with scripture of the Christian Bible.
God revealed in his word that he put a "dividing asunder" between the soul (mind) and the spirit of man. This is to prevent man from using his mind at will to control his own spirit body. What God has divided, man should not attempt to reconnect. The biblical scripture of Hebrews 4:12 says, "For the word of God is quick (alive) and powerful and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the DIVIDING ASUNDER of SOUL and SPIRIT...." The practice of astral travel is pure witchcraft.
