Real Zombies in Haiti: Proof of Soulessness?
The practice of voodoo is prevalent in Haiti, which means that the practice of black magic abounds in that land. Zombification is probably one of the most intriguing subjects related to voodoo, and it strikes fear in many Haitians, who believe that there are real zombies in Haiti. There also are a good number of people in the United States, particularly in the southern states who believe in real life zombies.
What Is Zombification?
Zombification is thought to be a process by which a witch doctor kills a person and then raises him or her from the dead as a zombie, who can be controlled and manipulated. It is believed that real zombies in Haiti are half-dead and half-alive, because they are trapped in soulessness, their souls having been stolen by the sorcerer who "resurrected" them.
Evil power summoned by the practice of magic is real and has been practiced since antiquity. Witchcraft, magic, the practitioners of these dark arts, and the havoc that they wreak are mentioned in the Old and New Testament scriptures of the Holy Bible. Heavenly Manna offers Bible studies on this topic (see links at the end of this article). Does this mean that voodoo witch doctors truly are able to use black magic to make real zombies in Haiti or anywhere else for that matter?
The Truth About Real Zombies in Haiti
A Christian preacher in Haiti, who was a former witch doctor revealed the great deception behind zombification through voodoo. He explained that the sorcerer poisons his victim by a potion whose main ingredient is taken from the puffer fish, which is native to tropical climates. The fish is poisonous and the ingredient taken from it causes the victim's body to swell and puff up just as the body of the puffer fish swells up.
The poison also does something else that is crucial to the so-called process of zombification: it causes the heart beat to become so slow and weak that it cannot be detected even by health care providers using the most sophisticated stethoscope. Consequently, the person appears dead. The other foul ingredients that are included in the potion provide the stench that is necessary to simulate death. The absence of a pulse, the stench, and a swollen body are all that is needed to deceive the masses.
A funeral is held for the person; and he is buried in his grave. However, that person is buried alive, and is conscious during the process--but he appears dead. The sorcerer returns to the grave, and "raises" his victim from the dead through the administration of another potion that serves as an antidote to the original one that simulated death. Thus, witch doctors can make what many highly superstitious and fearful Hatians call real zombies in Haiti.
Soulessness Unmasked
But, what about the claim that the sorcerer stole the person's soul? Real zombies in Haiti appear and behave as though their very soul has been snatched from them. A medical doctor in the country, using sophisticated medical technology such as computed tomography scanning, actually examined a man who was thought to have been zombified. She discovered damage to parts of the his brain--the same damage that can, and often does occur if the brain is deprived of adequate supplies of oxygen.
The extremely slow and feeble heart beat caused by the poison made from the puffer fish certainly interferes with blood flow to the brain. The blood carries oxygen. When its flow is negatively affected, it cannot deliver adequate amounts of oxygen to the body's tissues, including brain tissue. Damage to the brain affects behavior. The person is not trapped in soulessness as the sorcerer would have the people to believe. He simply has suffered brain damage--something that is not at all unusual in cases of poisoning.
The Good News of the Gospel for Haiti
Many witch doctors and practitioners of voodoo continue to control the people through fear of black magic. But, the people who have heard and believed the gospel of Jesus have been made free from the bondage of fear through the truth of God's word.
They have learned that there is no such thing as zombification, because only Jesus has the power to resurrect from the dead. Jesus said, "...I am the resurrection, and the life..." (KJV, St. John 11:25).
They have learned that the Lord said, "Behold, ALL SOULS ARE MINE; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine..." (Ezekiel 18:4). The truth of God's word reveals that the sorcerer who says that he took away a person's soul is no more than a liar.
The people have learned that if they are not to fear those who can actually kill the body, certainly they are not fear those who only simulate death. The Lord warned, "...Fear NOT them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him (God) which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell" (Matthew 10:28).
Satan desires to be feared and worshiped in place of God. Sorcerers making so-called real zombies in Haiti is but one of numerous ways in which the Enemy attempts to align himself with the Lord. This is why the Bible warns us that he uses great deception.
"For by thy sorceries were all nations deceived" (Revelation 18:23).
"And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which DECEIVETH the whole world..." (Revelation 12:9).
