Christian Prison Ministry to Innocent Prisoners
The Innocent Prisoner
While many prisoners are truly guilty of the crimes for which they are serving time, an alarming number of incarcerated people are innocent prisoners. It is with these people in mind that the Christian prison ministry of Heavenly Manna is being launched. It should not be difficult for anyone to imagine the discouragement that most of these men and women suffer.
What must it be like to know that you are innocent, but no one will listen to you? What must it be like to loose your freedom and be thrown into prison where there are inmates, and some guards who threaten your safety on a daily basis? Consequently, how many have, or will become, "criminals" in order to survive the nightmare that they don't wake from? What must be some of the questions that these innocent prisoners have about the love of God? Yes, there is a need for a Christian prison ministry dedicated to reaching out to this often neglected, and sometimes scorned, group of people.
Although true Christian ministry of course revolves around sharing the gospel, a willingness to roll up one's sleeves and help people in practical ways also is essential to be effective. This is understandably a "touchy" subject for many people, but one that believers in Jesus should not consider unimportant. Most of the people who have made a difference in the lives of innocent prisoners do not claim to be followers of Christ. That does not mean that the Lord was not in their wonderful work of proving someone's innocence, especially when some of the inmates they helped were on death row.
If you are an innocent prisoner, or know someone who is, or are a criminal lawyer, or a student of criminal law who would like to volunteer whatever time you can spare, please contact us. The Christian prison ministry of Heavenly Manna does not require that volunteers adhere to the Christian faith if their services are strictly related to helping to free an innocent man or woman behind bars.
Suicidal Innocent Prisoners
The depression under which some innocent prisoners live is so heavy that some of them contemplate taking their life to escape daily misery. This is why we consider that fervent prayer and God-inspired encouragement are vital parts to our Christian prison ministry.
Jesus said, "The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to KILL, and to destroy. I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly" (Gideons Intl' Bible, St. John 10:10). We do not believe that our Lord excluded innocent prisoners who receive him as Savior when he spoke those words.
