Adsense Sharing Writing Communities: Can You Earn Money?
Sadly, many of the articles on the world wide web today that praise online writing communities are terribly outdated. They enumerate the many benefits that writers gain by registering and faithfully publishing content while participating in an Adsense sharing program. These articles encourage you to simply write, write, write, and write some more to publish hundreds of articles. They explain that the more content you have, the more times your articles will be seen, and the more money you'll earn. Many of them even suggest that you make the most of your hard work in writing by publishing your material in as many writing communities as possible. It all sounds like a good plan. And, many readers are encouraged when they read the testimonies of others (some are fake) who are actually earning a living by writing for Adsense sharing.
The Up-To-Date Situation
First, the Internet is a whole lot more cluttered now than it was even less than ten years ago. As a result, many search engines have tightened up their efforts to weed out what they deem as useless sites. They also have become very sharp at detecting sites that use unscrupulous search engine optimization (SEO) techniques. They also watch for sites that stuff many advertisements into their skimpy content that all you have are ads, not information.
Many people have even stooped to using article-writing software to generate content instead of writing their own. Others employ offshore writers who will produce an "article" for $1.00 (USA), instead of paying educated, native English speaking writers to produce good content. Indeed, things have become a mess.
This mess has caused things to change for the worse. You might read that you can publish the same article at several online writing communities. Don't believe it. Because of the high demands now of the search engines for original, high quality content, everyone wants UNIQUE articles. This means that you can no longer upload here, there, and everywhere. You can't even publish your own content on your own web site! Guess what? This also means that you would have to write hundreds of ORIGINAL pieces of content to be published at every Adsense sharing writing community you can find in an attempt to earn any real money.
To Their Advantage Not Yours
Adsense account holders keep the most, not all, of the money they earn from running ads on their site. A percentage understandably goes to Google who allowed you to participate in their advertising network. Many online writing communities offer anywhere from 50% - 90% of the Adsense earnings you make from your content. They take the rest. The idea is that it is a win-win situation. You don't have to have a website, and they don't have to produce their own content.
However, it is a win-loose situation for most people, meaning that they win, and the writer loses. They accept content from thousands of writers. That means that your content easily becomes lost in a sea of other articles. Also, if you know nothing about SEO, won't write about sports and celebrities, or can't sit at home and produce a stream of articles daily, you're probably not going to earn anything.
Good News for Good Writers
If you truly are a good writer with good grammar skills, and if you write unique, quality content on a very regular basis, you might want to consider having for your OWN website. This would allow you to earn the maximum from your writing. But, won't your web site get lost in the sea of sites that are already out there? That thought does make sense, but our experience has not shown that.
Pros and Cons of Your Own Web Site
Is it better to have your content published on a high-traffic web site where it gets lost in the midst of hundreds of thousands of other articles or to publish it on your own low-traffic web site? We can say from personal experience that the latter is by far almost always the most profitable choice. In addition to higher earnings, you remain in control.
Among the things that will be necessary to have a successful web site are:
1. At least basic knowledge of SEO
2. A reliable web host for the site
3. A data-driven system (content held in a database and handled by a server-side language such as PHP).
4. A domain
5. Patience
6. Perseverance
If you are not a web developer (programmer), you'll need to use third party software such as WordPress that allows you to have a dynamic (database-driven) site. The days of static HTML sites are gone for good.
Earnings from Adsense sharing will provide a very high full-time income for a very few people. It will provide a substantial part-time income for others; and it will provide only pocket change for others. Several factors determine the group into which you fall. Among those factors are: diligence, patience, marketing skills, subject matter on which you write, how much income you need to pay the bills, and perhaps luck.
