Why Most Christian Writers Don't Earn Money Writing Christian Articles
A Common Thread Through Christian Articles
Christian writers who write for the many online article banks, article directories, and content mills seldom earn the money from their material that writers earn who write on non-Christian topics. Some believe that this is because people simply aren't interested in reading Christian articles or anything about God. However, this simply is not true. If it were, Christian books, magazines, and music sales would not be what they are. Also, Christian articles don't tend to be widely read even when they are published at Christian article banks.
The following are common complaints about Christian writers and the Christian articles they write:
1. Content is melodramatic (excessive use of exclamation marks and capitalized words).
2. Messages often are a repeat of what the author heard in church service or Sunday school--messages anyone can hear if they would simply go to church.
3. Content is poorly written (lacks organization).
4. There are numerous grammatical errors and spelling mistakes.
5. Content lacks sufficient scriptural support for the messages that are being put forth.
Tips for Christian Writers
Keeping in mind the problems with most Christian articles mentioned above, there are some very effective tips that can be used to avoid producing content with those problems. An exclamation point and/or capital letters are not needed to emphasize a point. Simple teachings backed by appropriate biblical scripture is sufficient. Being melodramatic in the writing of Christian articles actually interferes with comprehension and focus on the subject.
Most of the Christian churches today teach the same things over and over--the easy-to-understand scriptures. Articles and Bible studies written on these "fluffy" topics do not answer the hard questions that are continually avoided nor do they spark interest in the gospel.
Christians should take as much pride in the work that they perform in service to Christ as the world takes in its work. Numerous spelling mistakes and grammatical errors interfere with the reading of the article, which in turn, interferes with comprehension. Grammar doesn't have to be perfect; however, Christian articles should not appear to be written by someone who takes no pride in his or her writing.
Many Christian writers seek exposure; therefore, they often publish their work at one or more article banks for their content to be reprintable Christian articles. A link back to their website is placed at the end of the article to help generate traffic. Many website owners and online publishers, however, tend to be very choosy when it comes to the material they will offer to the visitors to their site. Very few religious articles written by Christians are chosen--at least in comparison with the secular articles that are picked up by online publishers.
Heavenly Manna Ministries considers articles written by Christian writers for publication on the ministry web site if the content is very well written, supported by scripture and valuable for Christian growth. Scripture must be taken from the King James Bible.
