What Are the Health Benefits of Manganese?

How Does Manganese Benefit the Body?
The health benefits of manganese include a healthy reproductive system and proper synthesis of carbohydrates, fatty acids, and cholesterol. Other benefits include the development and maintenance of healthy bone and connective tissue. Of course, no one nutrient is the answer for the maintenance of good health or for the restoration of health. Unfortunately, there is a tendency to ignore the importance of a balanced diet that is high in vitamins, minerals, and trace minerals.
However, taking vitamin and mineral supplements, except for pure ascorbic acid (vitamin C), is hardly ever a wise decision. Nutrients should be obtained from heirloom, organically grown, wholesome foods, not substances manufactured by man.
Concern About Manganese Intake
Everyone concerned about good health might want to know the health benefits of manganese to help make beneficial dietary changes. Also, women of child-bearing age might want to take a particular interest in the health benefits of manganese. This is because of the favorable effect upon the reproductive system and the toll that is taken on the body during pregnancy and child birth. This is something that few medical doctors would advise or even encourage, because they do not tend to place much value on the importance of eating all natural foods or knowing the health benefits of manganese.
Natural Sources of Manganese
Organically grown, heirloom foods and herbs freely provided by God are the very best natural sources of manganese. They include whole grains such as spelt, kamut, barley, rice, and quinoa. It should be noted that modern wheat is not a natural grain; it is a genetically modified, harmful "food" that is a suspected link to diabetes, heart disease, and even cancer.
Other foods (herbs) to consume to enjoy the health benefits of manganese include green vegetables such as collard, mustard, and turnip greens; and kelp. Many people do not like the fishy smell and taste of kelp. Those who do not mind, however, can help to raise their natural intake of manganese by sprinkling kelp on foods on which a natural salt is used to season it.
Manganese Deficiency Symptoms
Many sources on the health benefits of manganese say that there are no reported cases of a deficiency in people. Nevertheless, a diet poor in nutrients is a diet poor in manganese. It should also be remembered that the minerals iron and calcium can inhibit absorption of manganese from the small intestines. This fact should not cause the importance of iron and calcium to be forgotten. Focus should be on eating foods that are rich in a variety of nutrients--the foods that the Lord gave for the health of man. Remembering the health benefits of manganese is remembering the importance of even nutrients about which most people are taught very little.
