How does the Christian Bible Define Righteousness?

The Scriptures Define Righteousness
There are two definitions of "righteousness" in the Christian Bible: the righteousness of God and the righteousness of man. Only one type is accepted by God; the other is rejected by him. The people who have a sincere desire to serve Christ will learn and submit to the definition that is of God. Those who want a form of godliness without true consecration to the Lord will gravitate toward the other definition.
When the scriptures define righteousness according to God, they teach, "Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness" (KJV, Galatians 3:6). Many people are quick to claim belief in God, not realizing that the Christian Bible defines true belief (faith) in God as obedience to Christ, not as the mere belief that God exists. The scriptures also define righteousness in the Lord's eyes by saying, "For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith as it is written, The just (righteous) shall live by faith" (Romans 1:17). Again, the righteousness of God is righteousness by faith in Christ, and genuine belief in Jesus compels obedience (1 Peter 4:17, Romans 10:16). To believe is to obey. As long as Adam and Eve believed the word of God that told them that they would die if they ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, they did not eat. As soon as they stopped believing the Lord's word, they also stopped being obedient to it and ate from the fruit of the forbidden tree (Genesis 2:16 - 3:6).
Righteousness: According to Man
How do the scriptures define righteousness according to man? The apostle Paul speaks of when he attempted to be righteous by following the Law. His writings are part of the Christian Bible, which repeatedly condemns man's attempts to establish his own "righteousness." The claim that there are numerous "interpretations" of scripture is but one example of man establishing his own justification. Paul wrote of his perfection according to the Law when he revealed, "If any other man thinketh that he hath whereof he might trust in the flesh, I more: circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the righteousness which is in the Law, blameless" (Philippians 3:4-6).
We then read that Paul said, "...Christ Jesus my Lord for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ and be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the Law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith" (Philippians 3:8-9).
Scriptures of the Christian Bible plainly define two types of righteousness. One is of God and one is of man. The righteousness of God is not practiced by even "perfection" in the keeping of the Law or of the Ten Commandments. It is not practiced by following personal opinion of what is good and what is
evil. It is practiced by keeping
faith in
Christ, which is obedience to him.
