What Does the Bible Say About Homosexuality?
The Old Testament on Homosexuality
Sometimes Bible-believing Christians who are not afraid to answer the question, "What does the Bible say about homosexuality," are called "the Leviticus people." This reflects our belief in the scripture of Leviticus 20:13 which warns, "If a man also lie with mankind as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death. Their blood shall be upon them." This same scripture in The Living Bible Paraphrased reads, "The penalty for homosexual acts is death to both parties. They have brought it upon themselves."
The scripture of Leviticus 20:13 is by no means the only passage from the Christian Bible that warns of the seriousness of the sin of homosexuality. It is, however, among the most familiar biblical teachings and warnings concerning this abomination.
The New Testament on Homosexuality
The New Testament teachings and warnings against the practice of homosexuality are in perfect agreement with those of the Old Testament. However, they do not tend to be as well known. Paul, an apostle of Christ, taught, "Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves, who changed the truth of God into a lie and worshiped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections; for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature. And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet (deserved)" (Romans 1:24-27).
What does the Bible say about homosexuality? It is clear that it is an abomination before God that will not go unpunished. Does this mean that God hates gay people? The Bible does not say that, and true Christian don't preach such a message. They are, however, often accused of hatred simply because they answer the question, "What does the Bible say about homosexuality?" with biblical scripture, which condemns the gay life style. Telling the truth is twisted into an unmerited accusation of hatred. May Christians continue to stand their ground in the face of this tactic of the enemy to silence God's word.
Help for Gay, Lesbian, and Bisexual People Who Want to be "Straight"
Some people in the GLBT communities around the world, when they learn what the Christian Bible says about homosexuality, do not want to continue committing what is an abomination to the Lord. However, many do not find the love and support they should receive from those who call themselves Christians. Heavenly Manna does not support gay pride and never will support it. Nevertheless, we do support and pray for the individuals who have received the truth of what God's word says about homosexuality and have begun their journey to freedom in Christ.
