Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world
The problem of pastor worship in the United States is growing out of control to the point of parishioners accepting "Christian" profanity from church pulpits.
A young Christian woman, during a conversation with another Christian, proudly spoke of how her pastor boldly made use of the phrase "hell no" in her speech and in the deliverance of her sermons. She proceeded to offer the explanation that she and the rest of the church's congregation had received from the pastor as justification for the use of "hell no" without shame.
The pastor cleverly concocted a logic that sounds good on the surface but that is in sharp disagreement with biblical scripture. She explained that there is nothing wrong or evil in saying "hell no" since hell, according to the Bible, is a real place. The parishioners' admiration for their pastor, coupled with their lack of biblical knowledge due to their negligence to read God's word for themselves, resulted in the acceptance of a falsehood--"Christian" profanity from church pulpits.
The Christian lady listening to such a twisted justification for a Christian freely saying "hell no", gently quoted God's word that spoke to the modern day situation of "Christian" profanity from church pulpits. Jesus plainly warned against such speech coming out of the mouths of his followers. In Matthew 5:33-36, the Lord taught, "Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, thou shalt not forswear thyself. But, shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths. But I say unto you, swear not at all; neither by heaven, for it is God's throne, nor by earth, for it is his footstool, neither by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King. Neither shalt thou swear by thy head because thou canst not make one hair white or black."
The pastor's explanation is quickly revealed as erroneous in light of the scriptures. Why would swearing by hell be justified just because it a real place? Heaven, the earth, the city of Jerusalem, and a person's head also are real things made by God, yet Jesus forbids swearing against them. Profanity from church pulpits is not made "Christian" just because a "Christian" pastor uses it. Jesus even went on to teach that "yes" and "no" need no helper words of any kind. He never dramatized affirmative or negative responses when he answered anyone, nor did any of his disciples. In fact, he taught, "...Let your communication be yea, yea(yes); nay, nay (no), for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil (KJV, St. Matthew 5:37).
How many more sheep will be led astray by uninformed and/or false shepherds who are not following the one and only Good Shepherd? "Christian" profanity from church pulpits is ungodly and shameful. It is no wonder that few people take Christians seriously when they speak of God.
Based on true events, The Third Man by Angela Sheffield, brings the Bible up close and personal as the characters face real issues of life: Betrayal, deceit, romance, bitterness, anger against God, hopelessness, will power, perplexity, triumph, unforgiveness, mental illness, and the "Alcohol made me do it" excuse.
