Are Kaballah Teachings Christian?
Is There a Kaballah Religion?
Many believers in Kaballah teachings stress that people should not look at the teachings as Kaballah religion. Nevertheless, they affirm that study of the principle set of Kaballah instruction, known as the Zohar, is for spiritual enlightenment. They state that these teachings help you to connect with the light of a spiritual force known as the creator. Understandably, this is why many people continue to refer to Kaballah teachings as religion.
The Goals of Kaballah Religion
Instruction from the Kaballah, according to the authors of kaballah.com, is said to be, "...An ancient wisdom that reveals how the universe and life work." The authors also state that, "It's the study of how to receive fulfillment in our lives." Other goals, according to the website, include: learning to alter your destiny, spiritual understanding of the accounts of events in the Christian Bible, and allowing you a deeper spiritual experience in the practice of whatever religion you follow. This means that there would be such a thing as Christian Kaballah for those who mix the teachings with Christianity.
Kaballah Teachings Compared to the Bible
The first question to answer is, "Why compare this instruction in ancient wisdom to scripture from the Christian Bible?"
The passages of Genesis 22:17 and Jeremiah 33:22 tell us that the host (stars) of heaven cannot be numbered. To this day, scientists have not been able to determine how many stars there are. Ecclesiastes 1:6 describes the circulation of the wind as though it were written by a meteorologist.
Leviticus 17:11 teaches us that the blood is the life of the physical body. Blood carries nutrients, oxygen and waste materials. Life cannot be sustained without blood. This is flawless Biology. Genesis 1:11-12, 1:21, and 1:25 is a definition of Biogenesis, which boldly affirms that living things reproduce more living things that are like themselves. In the book of Job, chapter 30, verses 5 and 6, we are taught that there once lived cavemen before any paintings of them were discovered.
The scriptures of Psalm 135:7, Jeremiah 10:13, Job 36:27-29, Ecclesiastes 1:7, and Isaiah 55:10 all teach hydrology, accurately describing atmospheric evaporation of water, electrical discharges (lightning), the circulation of water, and precipitation. These scriptures are so specific that they even clearly teach us that the rivers of the earth empty into the seas. This is nothing less than scientific teachings. Isaiah 40:22 speaks of planet Earth being round. The scripture uses the Hebrew word "chuwg," which translates to "circuit" or "compass, spherical" or "arched in shape."
Why would biblical scripture be so accurate regarding the natural world, but be incorrect in the spiritual truths it puts forth? The fact of the matter is that it makes no sense to reject the truths of the word of God. This is why we compare Kaballah teachings to the Christian Bible.
Again the goals of the ancient wisdom available in Kaballah teachings are:
1. Understanding of how the universe works
2. Spiritual fulfillment
3. Alteration of your destiny
4. Spiritual understanding of the Christian Bible
Did we not clearly see how the word of God imparted understanding of how the universe works in the above scriptures? We learned about hydrology, meteorology, biology, biogenesis, and ancient animals. What is more is that that was only a very small sampling of the understanding available in the wisdom of the scriptures of God's word.
Is the ancient wisdom of Kaballah teachings needed for spiritual fulfillment? A lack of fulfillment is to be spiritually hungry and thirsty. It is to be spiritually confused. The Lord Jesus said, "...I am the bread of life. He that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst" (St. John 6:35). Christ is plainly saying that he is your spiritual fulfillment.
We also read, "...Christ, the power of God and the WISDOM of God" (KJV, 1 Cor. 1:24). This tells us that Christ is the power and WISDOM of the Creator and the true Light. These truths are found in the word of God, not in Kaballah teachings. Why can't instruction from the Kaballah be mixed with instruction from the Bible? Because the Kaballah preaches a different doctrine, a different message, and a different gospel than the word of God.
The Kaballah teachings were written by a man. The Bible also was written by men. However, biblical wisdom cannot be attributed to the wisdom of the authors who could not have known the things they knew. They knew because they were inspired by God (2 Tim. 3:16). This means they wrote God's word, but the mystic who wrote the Kaballah teachings did not write under inspiration of God. Therefore, his words are not the words of God. We read, "...Let God be true but every man a liar..." (Rom. 3:4).
The Final Conclusion
Kaballah teachings are from the same source who tempted Eve to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. What did the serpent say to her? He stirred in her a desire for secret wisdom (Gen. 3:1-6). We read, "And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one WISE, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat..." (Gen. 3:6).
But, that wisdom was a wisdom that was outside of God. Kaballah teachings are a wisdom outside of Christ. Therefore, God considers it a forbidden wisdom.
