Origin of Demons: Hybrid Spirits of the Deceased Giants in the Bible?
It All Starts With Giants in the Bible
Biblical inquiry into the origin of demons begins with the sixth chapter of Genesis. This passage speaks of the existence of giants in the earth who became mighty men and men of renown (verse 4). Giants were the offspring of the unholy union of the sons of God (angels) and the daughters of men (mortal women). This chapter in Genesis lets us know that the earth in the days of Noah were filled with violence perpetrated by wicked men. We read that God decided to destroy the earth and all the wicked men, fowls, and land animals. He saved only Noah, Noah's wife, sons, and daughters-in-law, and some of the animals in order to preserve the various species he had created. It is clear then that the giants in the Bible perished in the flood.
There are false teachings circulating that the spirits of the deceased giants are demons; therefore, it is said that they are the origin of demons. Because the giants of the Bible were half angel and half man, they are said to be hybrid spirits, which allowed them to live on in the earth as demons.
Origin of Demons Based on Enoch Book of the Watchers
There are two reasons why some teach that the departed hybrid spirits of giants in the Bible are in reality demons. First, teachings from the book of Enoch, known as the Book of Watchers, are consulted. Reading this book and accepting its teachings about the origin of demons lends credence to the theory that spirits of deceased giants in the Bible are demonic spirits. There is a serious problem with turning to the book of Enoch for answers. The writing of the book of Enoch was NOT inspired by God. Therefore, not even one of its scriptures should be received as God-inspired teaching. Enoch is a part of the Apocrypha. The writers themselves of the scriptures of the Apocrypha fully admit that their writings were NOT inspired by the Lord. Why then would a true believer in Jesus turn to them for answers on the question of the origin of demons? Let us forget the book of Enoch and stick with God-inspired scripture only.
The second reason for erroneous teachings about the identity of demonic spirits has to do with misunderstanding or twisting of the scriptures that are inspired. Some point out that scripture from the Christian Bible shows that there is a difference between demons and fallen angels.
How Did the Lord View Hybrid Spirits of the Giants in Genesis?
We read, "There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown. And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was evil continually. And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. And the Lord said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air, for it repenteth me that I have made them" (KJV, Gen. 6:4-7).
The Lord spoke of the wickedness of MAN. He did not distinguish between those who were fully man and those who were "hybrids," having a father who was an angelic being and a mortal mother. The Lord repented that he had made MAN; the scripture does not say "hybrid" man. The Lord said that he was going to destroy MAN from the face of the earth. He did not say that he was going to destroy man and "hybrid" man from the earth. We cannot add to or take away from the words of God (Deut. 4:2).
People who were fully man were men in the eyes of God. And, people who were half man and half angel or "hybrids," as some prefer to call the giants, were men in the eyes of God. The Christian Bible says that spirits of deceased men cannot remain on earth among the living. Why would departed spirits of giants, who were also men, be able remain on earth among the living? If they cannot remain on earth, they cannot be the origin of demons who, obviously are active in their onslaught against man, particularly the servants of God.
The Christian Bible on Departed Spirits of Men
We read, "For the living know that they shall die, but the dead know not anything, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten. Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy is now perished for ever in any thing that is done under the sun (in this present world of the living)" Ecclesiastes 9:5-6. In light of this truth how could the origin of demons be spirits of the deceased giants of the Bible? Their love of evil, their hatred for righteousness, and their envy of the sovereignty of God perished when they perished. Demons are active. Their workings are pronounced manifestations of their love of darkness, their hatred of the things and people of God, and of their envy of the authority of Christ. This passage in Ecclesiastes also tells us that the dead do not know anything about this world. Demons know plenty about the happenings of this world. Departed spirits of giants are NOT and cannot be the origin of demons!
God Controls Spirits of the Deceased
The following is an excerpt from our article, Spirits of the Deceased:
There are several problems with believing that spirits of the deceased have power over their activities because of what scripture from the Christian Bible teaches about them. Ecclesiastes 12:6-7 says, "Or eve the silver cord be loosed, or the golden bowl be broken, or the pitcher be broken at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the cistern. Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was, and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it."
This same scripture in the Living Bible Paraphrased reads, "Yes, remember your Creator now while you are young, before the silver cord of life snaps, and the golden bowl is broken, and the pitcher is broken at the fountain, and the wheel is broken at the cistern; and the dust returns to the earth as it was, and THE SPIRIT RETURNS TO GOD WHO GAVE IT."
We learn that spirits of the deceased return to God the Creator. That includes spirits of the deceased giants in the Bible, which makes it impossible for them to be demons, or the origin of demons. If they can return to Earth to haunt places, they would have to be sent by God or they would have to have the power to leave God to return to haunt wherever they desire. Scripture forcefully warns against belief in the freedom of spirits of the deceased to come and go from the presence of the living as they please.
How then could the origin of demons be the departed spirits of the giants in the Bible who perished? Those spirits went back to God and are under his control, restricted from working their hatred, envy and wickedness on earth among the living. This is not theory or guesswork or the words of books that have not been God-inspired. This is scripture. If departed spirits can continue to work evil, why did God destroy earth to get rid of the evil that was being done? Erroneous teachings about the origin of demons are neither in agreement with biblical scripture nor are they even logical.
Demons are fallen angels and fallen angels are demons according to scripture from the Christian Bible. But, how can this be if the angels that sinned are chained in darkness and have been cast down to hell where they are reserved until the day of judgment (2 Peter 2:4, Jude 1:6)? Interesting topic, and "Demons are the disembodied spirits of the Giants (Nephilim). The 'Mighty Men of Renown' are the Gibborim created by the Watchers when they left their heavenly abode and came down to the daughters of men as recorded in Genesis Chapter 6:4 of the Old Testament. They are half breeds, angelic hybrids, the Titans. NEPHILIM HYBRIDS & ANGELS - BOOK OF ENOCH - ORIGIN OF DEMONS & GIANTS (Link removed) When fallen angels shape-shift into a form of human being they can have intercourse but not without some aberrant genetic changes. The union of these beasts with humans produced children that were different in many ways. The first apparent difference was that they developed giantism. They were giants or Nephilim. Og the King of Bashan had a bed that was 13 to 15 feet long; and Goliath was 6 cubits tall (9 feet). The second aberration was that they had six fingers and six toes... "The aberrant genetic tendencies of the Nephilim were unfortunately cloned into the D.N.A. of mankind. According to the Bible, only Noah escaped this genetic intervention at the time. There are no records of these perverse tendencies prior to the intervention of the Watchers. These dormant genetic tendencies still surface today at times in different people ... The Watchers are a guardian class of angels that were assigned to watch over the earth and protect mankind from just this sort of thing happening.

1. The book of Enoch is NOT a God-inspired book (pointed out in the article).
