Alchemical Healing from a Biblical Perspective
The Foundation of Alchemical Healing
The core beliefs of any doctrine, philosophy, system of healing, religion, or anything else are of great importance to the people who genuinely want to live in obedience to Christ. Why? Because they form a foundation; and if that foundation is not of Christ, true Christians reject it, as well as the teachings based on it, even if they appear to be Christian. According to the book, Alchemical Healing by Nicki Scully, this fascinating system of healing is, "...A school of knowledge and a spiritual path to an enlightened state of presence." In the same book we read that this New Age healing system is, "...Based in the same eternal source of intelligence that sustained the high civilizations of ancient Egypt...."
Moses and the Wisdom of Ancient Egypt
If the same source of intelligence that sustained ancient Egypt is the foundation of alchemical healing, we have our first reason to suspect that this New Age doctrine is not in agreement with the doctrine of Christ. Why? Remember that Stephen, in the book of Acts, makes mention of the impressive works fueled by ancient Egyptian wisdom. Stephen said, "And Moses was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and was mighty in words and in deeds" (KJV, Acts 7:22). If Moses was "mighty" in words and deeds, there is no reason to doubt that he practiced the doctrine of alchemical healing. Nevertheless, what does scripture say that Moses did with his knowledge gained in Egypt? We read, "By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter; choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of SIN for a season; esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures of Egypt..." (Hebrews 11:24-26).
Yes, the wisdom of ancient Egypt was considered a treasure, because practitioners of the intelligence of that high civilization possessed mystical powers. The truth remains, however, that the word of God called that treasure a SIN. Moses rejected the wisdom of Egypt for the wisdom of God. Is this truth not instruction in righteousness when it comes to deciding whether alchemical healing is of the God who inspired the scriptures of the Christian Bible or of the gods of ancient Egypt?
A Final Reflection on Alchemical Healing
In the first part of the Old Testament book of Exodus we read about the release of Israel from slavery in ancient Egypt. We read of the series of plagues that God brought upon Egypt among which was a plague of boils. The scripture of Exodus 9:10-11 says, "And they took ashes of the furnace, and stood before Pharaoh. And Moses sprinkled it up toward heaven; and it became a boil breaking forth with blains upon man, and upon beast. And the magicians could not stand before Moses because of the boils; for the boil was upon the magicians and upon all the Egyptians."
Where were the intelligence, wisdom, and magic of the magicians and people of ancient Egypt when they were struck with boils on their bodies by the hand of God? Did not these Egyptian "treasures" fail them when faced with the power of the God of Israel? Why could they not rely on alchemical healing to take away the boils from their own bodies? The doctrine and teachings of the New Age, including those on alchemical healing, are not at all new. They are the same old falsehoods, under new names, that have been around since ancient times. Repeatedly throughout scripture there is the warning and command, "Be not deceived" (1 Cor. 6:9, 15:33, Gal. 6:7).
