Is Rick Perry a Christian?
Sadly, most answers to the question, "Is Rick Perry a Christian?" are based not on scripture of the Christian Bible, but on what sounds Christian to the individual answering the question. Answers also are based on personal opinion and bias. For example, Perry's stance against gay "marriage" certainly is not pleasing to anyone who rejects biblical scripture revealing that the practice of homosexuality is an abomination to the Lord. Nevertheless, neither support for prayer to return to the public schools nor acceptance of the Holy Bible as God's word makes someone a Christian. In other words, holding Christian values is not the same thing as being a Christian, according to scripture. So, is Rick Perry a Christian or not? At this point, it probably is safe just to say that he certainly appears to uphold true Christian values.
Rick Perry Christianity Vs. Biblical Christianity
It might be surprising to learn that not only do some people reject any affirmation that Rick Perry is a Christian, they actually believe, or say that they believe, that he is the Antichrist. According to a website dealing with religion and politics, the name of which we will not mention, "...a vote for Rick Perry is a vote for the end of the world." What would cause someone to make such a statement? On what could that statement possibly be based? Most people are aware of the religious teachings concerning the appearance of the Antichrist somewhere near the end of this present world. The same website that warns against voting for Rick Perry offered an explanation for such a warning--one with no biblical support. Again, according to the blog (website), "Many people mistakenly believe the Antichrist will seem evil or be anti-religious...the Antichrist will seem religious. This is his greatest deception."
Unmasking an Antichrist
Believers in the Jesus of the Christian Bible who actually study and learn the word of God can quickly find the flaw in such a "warning" against voting for Rick Perry. While God's word does warn that Satan can transform himself into an angel of light (2 Corinthians 11:14), it reveals the most crucial give-away of the spirit of Antichrist--the denial of the divinity of the Son of God (1 John 2:22, 4:1-3,).
Many people honestly do not understand how the mentioned scriptures in the book of 1 John relate to the divinity of Christ. We will not repeat here that very simple explanation that is found in True Identity of the AntiChrist and in Who Is the Biblical Antichrist? (audio article).
Is Rick Perry a Christian? In these last and evil days, it probably is more important to ask not if someone is a Christian, but if he or she denies that the Son of God is God.
