Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Sleeze and promiscuity is promoted in modern styles of dressing, in the movies, in television shows, in the lyrics of "songs," in popular dances, in books, in the constant use of profanity during conversation, and even in university and college courses. It's no wonder that many very young children know how to seduce. Many are addicted to pornography, engage in the abuse of children younger than themselves, and are often street wiser than some adults who live what is now labeled a boring, nerdy life. Does the Christian Bible have anything to say on the subject of sleeze and promiscuity?
The scripture of 1 Timothy 2:9 reads, "In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array." Unfortunately, many Christian "leaders" misused this scripture to teach women in the church against adorning themselves with any kind of jewelry, braiding their hair, wearing make-up, and against many other things that have nothing to do with the true message of 1 Timothy 2:9. It should be obvious that the scripture is speaking against dressing according to a certain mind-set, because it says that females are to dress in modest apparel with "shamefacedness." Modesty and shamefacedness do not refer to any specific style of dress. They refer to the mind of the one who dresses.
There are many different styles of dress that would reflect modesty and shamefacedness, just as there are many different styles of dress that would reflect sleeze and promiscuity. A woman can avoid being indecently exposed by dressing in a skirt, pants, shorts, a suit, sportswear, a dress, a uniform, and other types of clothing. Likewise, sleeze and promiscuity can be seen when dressing in the same types of apparel. The pants can be skin-tight, the shorts and the skirt can barely cover the thigh, the blouse or top portion of a dress could be very low cut. It is all about what's in the mind, which reflects its contents outwardly in speech, and in dress.
Based on true events, The Third Man by Angela Sheffield, brings the Bible up close and personal as the characters face real issues of life: Betrayal, deceit, romance, bitterness, anger against God, hopelessness, will power, perplexity, triumph, unforgiveness, mental illness, and the "Alcohol made me do it" excuse.
