Do Cursed Objects Really Exist? What Does God's Word Say?
The topic of whether cursed objects actually exist is one of the many important questions people have about the paranormal, including Christian believers. God's word answers this question in plain language. While this topic certainly could lead to an in-depth Bible study on why many people believe in cursed objects, how things become cursed, and for what purpose are they cursed, again, this article simply answers the question of the reality of cursed items.
The Accursed Thing in Biblical Scripture
The scripture of Joshua 6:18 records when God told Israel, "And ye, in any wise, keep yourselves from the accursed thing, lest ye make yourselves accursed when ye take of the accursed thing and make the camp of Israel a curse and trouble it." We know that the accursed thing is actual cursed objects when we look at Joshua 7:1 and 7:20-22. We learn from Joshua 7:1 that, "...The children of Israel committed a trespass in the accursed thing for Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah of the tribe of Judah, took of the accursed thing...." Later in Joshua 7:20-22, it's made clear that the accursed thing is actual objects because scripture says, "And Achan answered Joshua and said, Indeed I have sinned against the Lord God of Israel and thus and thus have I done. When I saw among the spoils a goodly Babylonish garment and two hundred shekels of silver and a wedge of gold of fifty shekels weight, then I coveted them and took them and behold they are hid in the earth in the midst of my tent and the silver under it. So Joshua sent messengers and they ran into the tent and behold it was hid in his tent, and the silver under it."
A piece of Babylonian clothing, silver, and a wedge of gold are real, tangible objects that were cursed and when taken by Achan, caused Israel to fall under a curse which brought them great trouble (Joshua 6:18). These things were among what was the accursed thing. Numerous people have personal, real-life stories of the trouble that plagued them after taking certain objects into their possession. These people should not be automatically dismissed as paranoid because cursed objects really do exist.
