Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
The New Testament scripture of 2 Peter 3:8 teaches man that a thousands years is but a day to God. It's no wonder that God's working in the life of man almost always appears to be very slow and requiring mounds of patience.
The book of Revelation speaks of the return of Christ who tells His church that His return is imminent, yet more than two thousand years have passed since He walked on the earth. The realization of these truths have, unfortunately, discouraged many people who have been and still are waiting on God for their deliverance, blessing, answer, or whatever their request may be. Do all of God's servants have to moan "how long, O Lord?" as the psalmist did? Scripture makes it plain that sometimes God's timing is actually the same as man's.
When Lazarus, Martha's brother died, she spoke with Jesus after he arrived who told her that her brother would rise again. Martha found no encouragement in his words for the present time, assuming that the Lord could only be referring to the resurrection of the dead in Christ in the last day. St. John 11:23 - 25 reads, "Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again. Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day. Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection and the life...."
Later, in the very same chapter, Jesus raises Lazarus from the dead to Martha's great surprise. This is one time God's timing was the same as man's. She wanted her brother to continue living longer on this present earth and that is exactly what she received without having to wait until the end of the world. The 40th verse of the same passage records, "Jesus saith unto her, Said I not unto thee that if thou wouldest believe, thou should see the glory of God?"
Jesus showed her the glory of God in that very same day consisting of twenty-four hours.
