The Shocking Truth about Buddhist Meditation
There are various ways of practicing meditation, so the question is: Are all of them dangerous? And in what way would they be dangerous? These are the questions we're going to answer in a simple way. Although we're focusing on the shocking truth about Buddhist meditation, the information we're going to give you applies to any form of meditation, whether it's Buddhist (Samatha, Vipassana) or a different type.
And on what do we base the answers? On something infalible: The Scriptures of the Christian Bible. If you're the type who doesn't think we should trust God's Word, we invite you to follow the link at the foot of this article to read the undeniable proof that the Bible has no erroneous teachings. What's more is that it should strike you as strange that the Bible tackles topics no other book does, whether it's scientific, "sacred", or any other type. Now we're going to deal with the shocking truth about Buddhist meditation.
Raising Your Level of Consciousness
Proponents of Buddhist meditation might tell you that the techniques are all about blanking out your mind. That it's self-hypnosis. That it produces a type of trance, or that it's just a way to relax. They might tell you it's focusing on a candle, a mantra, or on your own respiration. Respiration tends to be the preferred object of choice, because it's an involuntary action. And the goal is to turn what's involuntary into something that's voluntary. That's where the danger and the great deception lie. Why? Because the goal of all Buddhist meditation techniques is to put you in contact with spiritual beings. Those who encourage the practice of Buddhist meditation in the West usually put it in these terms: "The true goal of Buddhist meditation is to achieve clear vision. It's a technique for self-observation, and a way to elevate consciousness."
What Does Elevating Your Consciousness Have To Do With The Spiritual World?
Focus on the words "consciousness", "clear vision", and "self-observation". Why would you need a clearer vision? Why would you need to observe yourself? And why would you need to elevate your level of consciousness? To see and interact with spiritual beings, which you cannot do with your current level of consciousness...the consciousness with which you were born.
Adam, the first man God created, could freely talk and interact with God in the Garden of Eden. And he was aware of things he could not have known on his own, as evidenced by the fact that he knew God had made Eve for him from one of his ribs while he slept (Genesis 2:22). We don't read that God told him this. How did he know that? How did he become aware of it?
Now then, God is a Spirit (St. John 4:24), but Adam was a flesh and blood man (Genesis 2:21-23). How did that man of flesh know what a Spirit had done? The answer is simple. Adam had a spirit too. He was able to perceive and interact with the Spirit of God whenever he wanted, thanks to the fact that he could control his own spirit at will. The Bible tells us that only spirits can discern spiritual things. When Adam wanted to interact with the physical world, he used his physical body. When he wanted to interact with the spiritual world, he used his spirit. This says he had a high level of consciousness and self-observation. He knew he had a spirit. He knew the spiritual realm existed. Adam had clear vision of both worlds...the natural and supernatural one.
We read: "What man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man, which is in him?" (1 Corinthian 2:11-14). This Scripture lets us know that man has a spirit. Therefore, Adam had a spirit. We now read: "The natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God. For they are foolishness unto him. Neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned." (1 Corinthian 2:14). What we've just read lets us know that Adam knew what God's Spirit did, because his own spirit was in direct contact with God's Spirit. Let's remember that we're told that the goal of Buddhist meditation is to elevate your consciousness. That form of meditation is to achieve "clear vision, self-observation, and discernment." Translation: The goal of Buddhist meditation techniques is to place you in contact with spiritual beings by controlling your spirit. This is the shocking truth about Buddhist meditation.
And what's wrong with that? Isn't it a good thing to be in contact with God? Of course it is. The problem is that by practicing Buddhist meditation you will not enter into contact with God's Spirit, but rather with evil spirits. How do we know that? Because God took away man's ability to freely communicate with spiritual beings, including with Himself. When Adam sinned in the Garden of Eden, he died spiritually. And hundreds of years later, he died physically, just as God had said he would (Genesis 2:17). In other words, he lost the ability to use his own spirit when he wanted to do so. And all of his descendents were born without the ability to use their own spirit whenever they want. Does the Bible really say that? Yes, it does.
Doctor Rebecca Brown reminds us of the Scripture of Hebrews 4:12, which says, "For the Word of God is quick and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the DIVIDING ASUNDER OF SOUL AND SPIRIT..." There we have it. God separated the soul--the seat of your thoughts--from your spirit...the part of you that indeed can see and communicate with spiritual beings. And we are not to attempt to rejoin through Buddhist meditation what God has separated. It's no coincidence that practitioners of Buddhist meditation affirm that "generally, our minds are DIVIDED." What we should realize is that's exactly how it should be, because it's the work of God to protect us. Now then, the "word of God" is not referring to the printed words of the Bible, but rather to God Himself. God is the Word. We read, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word WAS GOD." (St. John 1:1).
We know Adam died spiritually, because he hid himself from the presence of God after he ate from the forbidden tree (Genesis 3:8). God is our life. Without him, we are spiritually dead even before we die physically. If we hide from what we need in order to live, we die. Remember that the tree of eternal life was only in the garden, not in the rest of the world. After Adam and Eve sinned, God cast them out of the garden, so they could not live forever (Genesis 3:22). And God calls what is destined to be as though it already were. This is why God said in the day you eat, you will die. The day Adam ate from the forbidden tree, he was cast out from where the tree of eternal life was. He was dead, because he was surely destined to die without access to the tree of eternal life.
As we can no longer see, hear, or interact with spiritual beings whenever we want, because of the dividing asunder between our soul and spirit, the only way to override what God did is by practicing the occult. And Buddhist meditation techniques are a part of the world of the occult. That's because their goal is to undo what God did. The goal is to rejoin what was divided by God. So, do we think we will enter into contact with God's Spirit by disobeying Him? We certainly will not. If you practice Buddhist meditation, the spiritual beings with whom you will come into contact are all evil. Every one of them. Because it is not your place to restore what God divided.
The only way to enjoy communion with the Spirit of God is by coming to repentance, and receiving Jesus Christ as your Lord. We read, "We have not received the spirit of the world, but the Spirit which is of God, that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God." (1 Corinthians 2:12). That's why Jesus tells us God is the One who gives us the Holy Spirit...His Spirit (Luke 11:11-13). But we do not receive that blessing by practicing Buddhist meditation or any other form of the occult (Deuteronomy 18:10-12). What's more is a true son and daughter of God doesn't go beyond prayer and obedience to God's Word in order to invite the Lord into his heart and soul. That's why we read, "For the prophecy came not in old time by the WILL of man. But holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost." (1 Peter 1:21).
The Scripture does not say the saints were mediums, soothsayers; that they gazed into crystal balls, or meditated to elevate their level of consciousness. The shocking truth about Buddhist meditation is that it's goal is to place you in contact with the satanic world of evil spirits.
