A Christian Review of The Movie Revelation: The Book Has Been Opened
Actors Jeff Fahey, Nick Mancuso, Leigh Lewis, Tony Nappo and Carol Alt star in the movie, Revelation: The Book Has Been Opened. The movie was assumed to be faithful to what is revealed by the Scriptures, considering that the ministries of famous religious leaders such as Jack Van Impe and John Hagee are connected with it. However, is that the case? Before tackling that question, it should be pointed out that the movie Revelation, overall, has not received positive reviews...understandably so. For just one moment, let's lay aside our review of Revelation: The Book Has Been Opened from the Christian perspective. Mr. Jeff Fahey is an excellent actor whose performance as Thorold Stone was praiseworthy. However, not even the greatest actor in the role of the protagonist of such a flawed movie can make up for what ended up being a flop filled with deception. The performances of most of the other actors leave a lot to be desired. For example, the "believers" are hauled into a chamber where they are to be incinerated. Among those who are condemned to die is Selma's daughter who appears to be a very young teenager, possible even as young as twelve. She's the only one with a smile on her face in the face of death. How unrealistic is that. And what are we supposed to think about her being left behind? Why wasn't she raptured with the rest of the world's children? Had she been evil? Is there a message being sent to viewers regarding the age at which someone can miss the rapture? There are just too many unanswered questions about her failure to disappear and "go to heaven" with the others. And when this young girl is being dragged off by guards while her mother is hand-cuffed to the wall, the performances of mother and daughter leave a lot to be desired.
And then there are the scenes where it is embarrassingly obvious that someone attempted to add an air of authenticity to the evil that dwells in the characters. At one point, the voice of the "servant of the Messiah," while interrogating Selma, changes through special effects. Was this an attempt to mimic what the voice of demons is supposed to sound like? Even one of the cover designs for Revelation: The Book Has Been Opened depicts the Messiah with a red glow in his eyes. Sounds more like something you'd expect from a horror movie, not one that purports to be Christian.
And when Selma looks up and "sees Christ standing at the right hand of God", what is that about except an attempt to copy the real and true account of when Stephen was stoned? Did they really think that including something like that would give viewers goosebumps? It's easy to see the effort to make Revelation pass as a Christian movie by including "scenes" randomly pulled from Scripture.
Promotion of Belief in a Pre-Tribulation Rapture
But let's return to our biblically-based Christian review of the movie Revelation: The Book Has Been Opened. First, we see that this movie upholds belief in a pre-tribulation rapture. Believers in a post-tribulation rapture probably cannot even remotely relate to any part of the story line. Please keep in mind that belief in a pre-tribulation rapture is a lot more comforting than belief in being raptured after the tribulation. Comforting, however, does not automatically make something true. If you have only been taught about a pre-tribulation rapture, we strongly advise you to at least learn why there are true Christian believers who do not find support in biblical Scripture for such a theory.
One Man Has Power to Fight the Anti-Christ System!
In a promotional write-up for Revelation: The Book Has Been Opened, we read, "Stone discovers a sinister plot, a plot that only he can stop." Incredible! In what part of the Bible do we ever read that a man discovers the sinister plot of the beast? Where in the Scriptures do we read that a man will be able to stop that plot? What's more is that Helen Hannah, the leader of a band of underground Christians, says in the movie that God believes in Mr. Stone! In other words, the god of this movie believes in someone who doesn't even believe in him. Amazing! And that god believes in Mr. Stone enough to use him to stop the sinister plot through technology. It doesn't get much worse than this...unless we add the fact that in the movie, the mark of the beast is actually taken in cyberspace by putting on a virtual reality headset. The headset allows personal interaction with the so-called false Messiah who grants miracles in exchange for taking his mark. This is so far from biblical truth Revelation should not even be considered a partially Christian movie.
The Bible Versus the Movie Revelation: The Book Has Been Opened
We need only to point out a couple of things bordering on heresy to see the real anti-biblical messages behind this "Christian" movie.
1. Again, according to Revelation, the movie, one man who isn't even Christian is strong enough to fight against a spiritual beast. According to the Word of God, people whose trust is not in God will worship the beast saying, "Who is like unto the beast? Who is able to make war with him?" (Revelation 13:4). The movie made a mockery of such a statement, and portrayed a message totally contrary to biblical Scripture.
Revelation, the movie, puts forth the message that people will take the mark of the beast in exchange for miracles, just like the blind lady did in this awful movie. She chose the mark, and to receive her sight over blindness and "salvation." But what does God's Word say about the mark? For starters, we read nothing about satanic miracles in connection with the mark of the beast. Instead, we are told, "No man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name" (Revelation 13:17). We see that people will be strongly tempted to take the mark in order to survive. Who can survive without buying and selling? No one except those who place their trust in the Lord to provide for their needs. Our review of the movie Revelation: The Book Has Been Opened would equate to one star out of five. However, were it possible, we'd vote it zero stars. Do not be deceived by the many lies surrounding the end times, the great tribulation, the mark of the beast and so many more teachings found in Revelation. It is not even correct to refer to the coming world leader as the Anti-Christ. The Bible does not call him the "Anti-Christ." The Bible says he is one of two beasts. Yes, we need to get our facts straight. And we need to get them from the Bible when dealing with such serious things as God's Word and our salvation.
The Rapture, The Book of Revelation and The Mark of the Beast
Will the Christian church be raptured during the Great Tribulation?
Why the mark of the beast in Revelation is probably NOT a microchip
Based on true events, The Third Man by Angela Sheffield, brings the Bible up close and personal as the characters face real issues of life: Betrayal, deceit, romance, bitterness, anger against God, hopelessness, will power, perplexity, triumph, unforgiveness, mental illness, and the "Alcohol made me do it" excuse.
