Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
New Age philosophy has spilled heavily over into health care and has infiltrated even Christian beliefs about divine healing. It's said that some have received medically verifiable physical healing through the practice of the power of creative visualization. The patient is taught to let his imagination create mental sceneries in which his disease or cancer is under attack by whatever his mind's eye see as the imaginary attacker and conqueror of his condition. Is this a powerful but harmless use of positive thinking and imagery? Cannot both the Christian and non-Christian alike use this power of his God given brain to work with the "universal mind" in which healing lies? The answer for the Christian based on biblical scripture is a forceful no. The Bible has already told the believer seeking healing what to focus his mind on--God's living Word. Proverbs 4.20-22 instructs the believer, saying, "attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my saying. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart (mind's eye). For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh."
The Christian is not to stifle or dismiss other perfectly sensible actions resulting from a positive outlook such as following the instructions of his physician, cleaning up his diet, and taking a look into herbal medicines, all of which have no condemnation in the Bible. He therefore can do many of the same things non-Christians may do in the use of their positive mind, but, to a certain dividing line such as that mentioned above.
All thoughts and actions that rise up in opposition to Christ Jesus, must be quickly brought down to prevent giving any advantage to Satan to work in one's life through sin against God. The Lord is the only true healer of all sickness and disease, both physical and mental, and never is He seen in scripture instructing anyone that He healed, to practice the type of creative visualization promoted by New Age thought.
The scripture of 2 Corinthians 10.5-6 admonishes men to practice, "casting down imaginations and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ."
Again, it is recorded in Exodus 15.26 that, "...if thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the Lord thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians; for I am the Lord that healeth thee.
Americans also need to be aware of the various methods for diagnosing disease. These methods include the study of the invisible meridians of the body, yin and yang balance, and so many others that could be listed but that are beyond the scope of this article. Inevitably they lead one into the pagan practices and doctrines from which they were born.
