Scripture of The Day - 1 John 4:1
Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world
He-Man Masters of the Universe Cartoon
Those who are familiar with the He-Man Masters of the Unverse cartoon know that it is unique in that, at the end of each episode, He-Man talks to the viewers. He leaves them with a message that might be called advice for life. The messages in the He-Man cartoon always sound wholesome and like they are a very good influence on young minds. But, people who have matured have learned that it is for a very good reason that the world warns that not all that glitters is gold.
If we are to heed the warnings of man, much more should we heed the warnings of the word of God. We are warned that, "....Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light " (KJV, Corinthians 11:14). Are we saying that the Christians who do not view the He-Man Masters of the Universe cartoon as a good influence on their children have reason to reject the messages put forth in it? Yes, they do have reason--reasons that are supported by scripture.
The He-Man Cartoon on Magic and Demons
At the end of the one of the episodes of He-Man Masters of the Universe, He-Man tells his viewers, many of whom are children, that, "We know that in real life there aren't any magic spells or demons...." He goes on to give counsel relating to the life lessons that were acted out in the cartoon. For example, in one of the episodes, the good guys learn to make peace and to be friends with a demon. What's wrong with that? There is plenty wrong with it.
The He-Man Cartoon Versus the Bible
To teach that magic spells and demons do not exist is nothing less than to teach a falsehood. The Lord Jesus, throughout the four gospel in the Christian Bible, taught on, warned about, and cast out demons and devils. The reality of magic is made loud and clear in both the Old and New Testaments of the Bible. What we we are left with is the fact that the teachings of the He-Man Masters of the Universe cartoon are in direct opposition to the teachings of the word of God. That should not be considered a light thing by any Bible-believing Christian.
Let's take a very brief look at just what Christ said about demons and other evil spirits, and what the Bible in general has said about the practice of magic. If magic is real, magic spells also are real. Jesus, in a conversation with people who accused him of using evil power to cast out evil, said, "And if I by Beelzebub (prince of the devils) cast out devils, by whom do your children cast them out? But, if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you" (Matthew 12:27-28). According to the He-Man cartoon, devils do not exist. According to Christ, they are very real.
We also read, "Then he (Jesus) called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils..." (Luke 9:1). Finally, the scripture of 1 Timothy 4:1 says, "Now the Spirit (of God) speaketh expressly that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils." If the Lord says that something is true, but man says that it is not true, that equates to man calling the word of God a lie. While that might not sound good, it is fact. This means that the main character of the He-Man Masters of the Universe cartoon is telling children the opposite of what Jesus wants them to understand as they grow up.
What Is the Big Deal?
There will be people who will continue to say that despite this fact, the He-Man cartoon definitely has enough good messages that it should not be considered a bad influence on children. Have those people read the solemn warnings below that are found in scripture?
"Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!" (Isaiah 5:20).
