African American Women White Men Marriages: From Online Christian Dating?
Interracial Christian Couples: Do They Really Ever Meet Online?
In this article we focus specifically on the African American women White men marriages for three main reasons:
- The number of Black women marrying White men is steadily growing at a significant rate. However, even in some areas where a "fair" number of interracial couples live, most of those couples do not represent this particular mix. Consequently, the people of those towns, including the African American women who are open to dating White men and the White men who are open to dating African American women, do not always realize the commonality of these "mixed" couples in other areas.
- More and more believers in Jesus are turning to online Christian dating to find a wife or husband. But, how many of the Black women marrying White men are actually meeting their husbands online? Most African American women White men unions tend to be formed offline. This might cause some Caucasian men and Black women who are truly open to dating across racial lines to believe that online Christian dating would not work for them. This is especially true in light of the fact that so few Christian dating sites have profiles of people who are genuine born again believers in Christ. If the chances of finding a true Christian online are already low; and there's the "fact" that most African American women White men marriages come about from meeting in the "real" world, is online dating even worth the try for these people?
- Some say that more Black women are marrying White men as a result of being convinced and encouraged to not make a big deal out it. Perhaps that is true; perhaps it is only partially true. But, what is true is that some Black women who are open to dating White men might decide to dismiss the thought of meeting a Caucasian husband online. Why? There are many discussions about various experiences that people have had with dating sites, including the ones that are supposed to be Christian. Some of the women complain saying, "If you're not a blonde with blue eyes, you don't get messages!" Certainly those characteristics are "missing" in African American women who might interpret statements like that to mean, "I haven't got a chance online. I'd better stick to the 'real' world."
It is extremely difficult nowadays to meet single, marriage-minded, truly born again followers of Jesus, which is why singleness in the church remains a growing problem. Someone once said that meeting a true believer now involves a "numbers game." The more flexible you are, the more from which you might have to choose the best husband or wife. Not everyone is open to interracial dating; that's their choice.
The search is hard enough. So, our minds need to be as open as possible even to what does not appear to be very likely or feasible. Again, there are some unique challenges surrounding the African American women White men union. Perhaps this is not the make-up of the majority of interracial couples in your area. That does not mean that your area is even close to a true reflection of what is taking place in the rest of the United States, or in the world for that matter.
Perhaps fewer African American women White men couples meet online, especially on a Christian dating site. But, that does not mean it is not taking place. Sometimes things would be so different (a success) if they were not written off before being tried. Perhaps the women who are brunettes and red heads who complain that only the blondes with blue eyes get messages on dating sites have influenced a decision to not try online dating. But, the fact remains that women of all physical characteristics are experiencing both success and failure with online dating sites, just like the blondes with blue eyes.
