Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Mr. Tomohiro Shibata and Satoko Inoue were joined in matrimony by I-Fairy, a robot who officiated their wedding ceremony according to the article, "Robot Weds Japanese Couple." The bride expressed that she thinks robots can be viewed as friends and obviously is in favor of their development, use, and of a robot wedding. While technology has produced some fascinating and helpful devices and equipment, is the making of robots to perform tasks such as officiating a wedding ceremony something that causes fascination or alarm? That question is obviously answered in different ways depending on who answers it.
Those who find the idea of a robot wedding like the one I-Fairy officiated are probably very strong proponents of the advancement of technology into all areas of life, whether it's needed or not. It would simply be something new, unique, and outstanding that sets their special day apart from the traditional wedding ceremony of others. There are others, however, who would be totally against the idea of a machine joining them in matrimony and might not even consider a robot wedding a real wedding. Each to his own.
Among the arguments against inviting technology into what should be a once in a lifetime moment is the fact that the restlessness in many people today who are always yearning to change tradition, often leads to an overall deterioration of society. The tradition of young people having respect for their elders has been degraded to a status of "old fashioned" behavior in many parts of the United States. The tradition of refraining from using profanity in the presence of children and ladies who behave like ladies has been kicked to the curb. The tradition of having the courtesy to speak to someone as you pass him or her on the streets has also been tossed aside as a thing of the past. How could acceptance of a robot wedding over a traditional one impact society for the good or for the worse?
What kind of society have negative changes and New Age attitudes produced? Opinions aren't needed to answer that question. An unfriendly, cold, and tense atmosphere has become the norm where friendliness and mutual respect once dominated. Violence and loss of even self-respect are among the undeniable consequences of always seeking after something new. The replacement of a "traditonal" wedding by a robot wedding certainly is a new age thing. It's even understandable why some find it very disturbing to view robots as friends. How could artificial "life" ever offer anything more than an artificial relationship? What is more is that if robots ever come to be viewed as friends, they might just come to be viewed as worthy to take as a bride or to become an artificial husband. When God spoke of it not being good for his created man, Adam, to be alone in the garden of Eden, He did not give him an artificial companion which he could have easily done having all creation power, rather He gave him a companion like himself. The mere idea of a robot wedding would have been shocking and vehemently rejected by many in earlier times. Perhaps it's because those people held "old fashioned" views. Perhaps it's because those people knew what ideas and beliefs helped to maintain a tranquil and safe society. Modern day society is far from tranquil and extremely unsafe.
Based on true events, The Third Man by Angela Sheffield, brings the Bible up close and personal as the characters face real issues of life: Betrayal, deceit, romance, bitterness, anger against God, hopelessness, will power, perplexity, triumph, unforgiveness, mental illness, and the "Alcohol made me do it" excuse.
