Mature Christian Singles With a Fear of Never Getting Married
Someone once pointed out that Isaac (a son of Abraham in the Bible) was probably around the age of 40 when he married. This point was directed at mature Christian singles suffering fear of never getting married. An important truth, however, was left out: the fact that people in Isaac's day lived well past 100.
Why Some Mature Christian Singles Are Still Single
There are various reasons why many mature Christian singles are still single. The most obvious one is the sad fact that there are so few genuine followers of Christ in the world. However, there are other reasons why some believers in Jesus have remained single for so many years, and unless they realize some things, will end up spending the rest of their life unmarried. Some of those reasons are listed below. Every individual would do well to be honest with him or herself to evaluate what the problem/s might be for continuing to remain among mature Christian singles.
1. Unrealistic requirements for a mate
2. Too little time and/or effort put into looking for a godly spouse
3. Unwillingness to consider online dating even if only free services are used
4. Too bashful to approach someone in whom there's an interest
5. A totally closed mind to considering correspondence with a Christian single who lives at a distance
6. Meaningless and unfocused conversation with someone who is a potential mate
7. Misunderstanding of the scriptures on the role of the Christian wife
8. Insistence upon finding someone of your exact church denomination
9. Listening to the "encouraging" words of Christian leaders who preach the blessedness of Christian singleness while they enjoy being in matrimony
There are still more reasons for which some mature Christian singles should have a fear of never getting married unless they make some changes. However, the nine reasons listed above certainly cover the vast majority of things that are getting in the way of many believers finding a wife or husband in the Lord.
Not only do we grow older each year that passes, we should also grow wiser. If you have a fear of never getting married, perhaps it's time to question what you might be doing or NOT doing that is causing you to remain single year after year. Practical advice includes asking yourself if your requirements for a mate are realistic or ridiculous. You won't find a flawless wife or husband; and you can be certain that you won't make anyone a flawless husband or wife.
If you're too busy to look for a husband or wife, you're probably too busy to be a husband or wife. If you hold an ill opinion of online dating based on mind sets from the dark ages, you might never meet who could have been your godly spouse. Bashfulness is another problem. Some men, including those who are mature Christian singles, are much too bashful when it comes to approaching ladies. Retaining such a fear might just be why you now have a fear of never getting married.
Long distance relationships don't work? That might be true 90% of the time. But, does that mean that you can't be in the remaining 10%? If you truly believe that nothing is impossible for God, why is there no belief that he can bring two people together even if an ocean separates them? Once you make contact with a potential mate, do you engage in meaningless conversation? This is often a problem with mature Christian singles who can behave so immaturely when it comes to looking for a wife or husband.
Christian men, if you believe that the scriptures grant you control over the ministry of a servant of God, including a Christian wife, you do not have understanding of God's word on the subject of a Christian lady. Consequently, if the lady who could have been your future wife is also in ministry, she just might not ever become your future spouse. Insistence on finding someone within your specific denomination instead of focusing on looking for a true, born again believer in Jesus also might cause you to remain single for the rest of your life. Finally, young as well as mature Christian singles, would do well to beware of following the counsel of married Christians. This is especially true in the case of married Christians who have been married for years and have no idea what it means to have a fear of never getting married.
Based on true events, The Third Man by Angela Sheffield, brings the Bible up close and personal as the characters face real issues of life: Betrayal, deceit, romance, bitterness, anger against God, hopelessness, will power, perplexity, triumph, unforgiveness, mental illness, and the "Alcohol made me do it" excuse.
