Christian Bashful Men Ruled by Fear
While the problem of being ruled by fear certainly does not affect only bashful men in the area of dating, this problem is the focus of this read. There are many reasons why Christian singleness has, and continues to be a serious problem internationally. Bashful men ruled by fear is one of them. These guys can earnestly pray for God to help them to find a Christian wife all that they want. However, many of them will continue to be Christian singles until they accept the fact that part of the problem just might sometimes be with themselves.
Proper Fear and Misplaced Fear
The scripture of 2 Timothy 1:7 teaches, "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind." We know that to fear the Lord is the beginning of knowledge (Proverbs 1:7). Therefore, the scripture of 2 Timothy 1:7 is talking about fearing other people and things in life that the believer should not fear. The scripture is not telling men or women to be foolishly fearless when they would do well to fear. For example, government, when it is a just government, should cause wrongdoers to fear punishment (1 Peter 2:13-14). This is good fear. Misplaced fear, on the other hand, can, and usually is devastating in many aspects of life, including personal happiness and our walk with Christ. Christian bashful men ruled by fear, when it comes to dating, might do well to let up on the prayers for God to help them to find a Christian wife, and focus instead on having the courage to make conversation with single Christian ladies.
There are very important reasons why the Lord teaches his people against being ruled by fear. He sees every aspect of our lives that will be affected simply by holding on to misplaced fear, which is one of the most powerful tools of the enemy. Did not Jesus warn that the enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy in St. John 10:10? If bashful Christian men allow fear to stop them from approaching a lady who could be his future wife, has he not allowed the enemy to steal from him what might have been? Eventually, his hope is killed, and sadly, the faith of some is destroyed. God is not going to do for us what we can do for ourselves, however difficult something might be. The Lord told Joshua, "...Be thou strong and very courageous that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law..." (Joshua 1:7).
It might be said that Joshua lived under the Law of Moses, and he was called to be a soldier and to lead soldiers of Israel. How can this have anything to do with helping Christian bashful men being ruled by fear? They're neither under the Law nor are they soldiers. But, remember, believers are under the Law of Christ, and they are spiritual soldiers. Sometimes they must fight the good fight of faith in the attainment of happiness in a world full of misery.
Ruled by Fear, Cornered by Tradition
Many bashful men ruled by fear would find it so much easier to find a Christian wife if the lady in whom they're interested would do the approaching. The truth is that that reliance upon such an "out" is not at all a good idea for Christian guys. It should be remembered that there are still "traditional" ladies who will not make the first approach; and some of them are even turned off by bashful men who allow themselves to be ruled by fear. Not everyone agrees with holding on to this tradition, but not everyone agrees with abandoning it.
Dedicated believers in Jesus seek to marry only another dedicated believer. This alone greatly reduces the number of prospects. When facing such low numbers of Christian ladies among which to choose, no opportunities should be passed over. Some Christians affirm that all the believer needs to do is pray for a godly spouse and wait without giving any thought to what might be interfering with finding a life partner. Many have taken that advice--and many will remain single all of their life when they could have been happily married.
