Encouragement for Christian Singles Looking to Find a Christian Wife or Husband
Self-evaluation, prayer, works of faith, and dedication to the need to find a Christian husband or wife are, for the most part, the things needed for encouragement for Christian singles. While that might be easily said, it is not often easily done.
Problems Associated With Encouragement for Christian Singles
The believer in Jesus who is looking to find a Christian wife or husband is to turn to the scriptures of the word of God for direction, strength, and inspiration. Encouragement for Christian singles is seldom easy to achieve because there are so many issues that arise when dealing with such a topic. Christian singles who are divorced might have questions or doubts about a second or third marriage being acceptable in God's eyes. Believers who have never been married, particularly if they are past the age of 35, have other issues. Then there is sometimes a fear to trust God to bless with the things in life that the majority of people find to be most important--family, friends, health, and some sense of financial and physical security. This is why scripture for Christian singles sometimes seems to be "off topic."
The Importance of Self Encouragement
Sadly, the international problem of Christian singleness is often ignored by the church, as is the case with many other serious problems among believers worldwide. Therefore, encouragement for Christian singles often boils down to single believers encouraging themselves through scripture of the word of God. There are certain things that almost every unmarried believer in Jesus who is looking to find a Christian wife or husband can do. What are some of those things? Self-education, prayer, works of faith, and dedication to attending to this important area of life are those things.
Self Evaluation
Whether we believe it or not, true self-evaluation can lead to encouragement for Christian singles. Some of the questions a person might ask him or herself include:
1. Are my standards for a mate too high or are they unrealistic?
2. Am I "limiting" God in my thinking?
3. Do I really want to be a husband or a wife?
4. Am I allowing other people to control me?
5. Am I giving this area of my life enough attention?
Encouragement for Christian singles can come from providing honest answers to the above questions by revealing possible hindrances to finding a godly mate. Some people set what are ridiculous standards and requirements for a mate. For example, the person for which they're looking must not be even one day older than their chosen and narrow age range. Their ideal mate must be within a very specific range for height and weight; they must live in the right geographic region, be of the very same church denomination, be willing to eat a certain type of food, and perhaps even be in or not be in a certain profession. Mr. Right or Ms. Right should not be expected to fit a profile that can only exist in the "perfect" world of an individual's mind.
When looking to find a Christian wife or husband, believers often make the mistake of "limiting" God by doing things such as automatically ruling someone out because of his or her geographic location. The Lord is able to bring people together who are separated by an ocean. Also, some singles might want to consider including other ethnic groups in their search to greatly enhance their chances of meeting their future spouse. This is a personal decision that might or might not be suitable.
It might seem ridiculous to ask yourself the question, "Do I really want to be a husband or a wife?" However, it isn't. Some people have issues with commitment. Those issues should be overcome before signing up with dating sites. There are already enough people on dating sites who are only pretending to find a Christian husband or wife, and wasting the time of those who know what they want in life.
Encouragement for Christian singles also includes the need to keep others from controlling your actions. For example, an attractive single Christian lady visited a church where a single gentleman belonged. What was the problem that they never even shook hands and met? First, the gentleman, also attractive, was concerned about how it might would have appeared to others had he went over to her and introduced himself. While nothing would have been wrong with welcoming her as a visitor like any other visitor, other thoughts entered the situation, and interfered with the making of a possible match. The opinions of others who have their mate in life should not have that kind of power and control over the actions of singles. This is particularly true when those others are doing nothing to help Christian singles to meet a godly husband or wife.
Finally, encouragement for Christian singles comes by realizing that quality time must be dedicated to the hunt to find a Christian husband or wife. Putting in a little effort here and there just will not get it for some people. Work with God and he'll work with you.
Based on true events, The Third Man by Angela Sheffield, brings the Bible up close and personal as the characters face real issues of life: Betrayal, deceit, romance, bitterness, anger against God, hopelessness, will power, perplexity, triumph, unforgiveness, mental illness, and the "Alcohol made me do it" excuse.
