God: The Righteous Judge
Murder by Ethylene Glycol Poisoning
Patricia Stallings, a young mother of an infant named Ryan Stallings, was convicted of murder in the first degree of her son when he died from what authorities believed to be ethylene glycol poisoning. Ethylene glycol is the active ingredient in antifreeze. Unsolved Mysteries did a wonderful job, as usual, of covering the nightmare that the Stallings had to endure, which undoubtedly played a major role in diverting what appeared to be her fate.
It was discovered that the baby, Ryan Stallings, suffered from a genetic disorder called MMA, which mimicked ethylene glycol poisoning. The evidence and the events surrounding the death of Ryan certainly did appear to point the finger against Patricia Stallings. Consequently, the men and women of the jury proceeded to judge righteous judgment according to the evidence. They cannot be expected to have medical knowledge of a genetic disorder called MMA.
It was stated on a web site that covered the case that due to the problem of child abuse, it is safer to err on the side of the child when in doubt. It is very sad that far too few people realize the extreme danger in taking things too far. In an attempt to move away from one end of the spectrum, they go all the way to the other end. They go to extremes and end up perverting justice. Just as child abuse is evil, sending an innocent person to prison is also evil. One evil should not replace another evil, and one life should not be more or less important than another life, simply because of age. The Righteous Judge cares for the child and he cares for the innocent adult, but how often does flawed man judge righteous judgment?
In the Absence of the Righteous Judge
Although most incarcerated men, women, and juveniles are truly guilty of the crimes for which they were convicted, a frighteningly high number of innocent people have been sent to prison and even executed because there was no one there to judge righteous judgment. If you have the opportunity to serve as a juror, it is your duty to flee hidden bias, prejudice, and extremes so you may judge righteous judgment as the Righteous Judge leads and guides you. The time is coming when we will all stand before the Righteous Judge.
"...We shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ" (KJV, Romans 14:10).
Based on true events, The Third Man by Angela Sheffield, brings the Bible up close and personal as the characters face real issues of life: Betrayal, deceit, romance, bitterness, anger against God, hopelessness, will power, perplexity, triumph, unforgiveness, mental illness, and the "Alcohol made me do it" excuse.
