Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
There is a prevalent mindset in the United States regarding true freedom to practice one's religion. Opinions and viewpoints usually amount to saying that followers of different religious beliefs should be able to accept one another's differences and live in religious harmony. While this general doctrine certainly sounds peaceable, logical, and practical, it could not be further from sound reasoning according to anyone with even rudimentary knowledge of the major religions of the world. If Mr. Spock, the second-in-command of the fictitious starship enterprise of the once popular television series, "Star Trek", could offer a statement on the topic of a religious harmony, his words would make more sense than those of supposedly intelligent philosophers and thinkers.
True followers of Christianity believe that Jesus is the only way to salvation. They also believe that Jesus has commissioned them to share his gospel throughout the world according to several biblical scriptures such as that of St. Matthew 28:19-20. Therefore, if they are going to practice what they preach, they must offer the gospel to everyone. There's a problem with this because true followers of Islam, in order to be obedient to Allah, must also promote the teachings of the Koran which gives explicit instructions to come against believers in Jesus and against the Jewish people whether they have believed on Christ or not.
Consideration must also be given to the dedicated followers of Hinduism, Buddhism, and every other religion that exists or will come into existence. Practice of many of these other "isms" involve practices that both Christians and Muslims must speak out against as the Bible or the Koran doesn't permit an attitude of looking the other way.
How, pray tell, do rational, educated people who use even a trace of logic in their thinking, expect for Christians, Muslims, Hindus, and followers of other religions, to achieve religious harmony if each group consists of dedicated adherents to their faith? If one claims Christianity but does not preach Christ as the only way to the living God and eternal life as prescribed by the Bible, he may justifiably be labeled as an unbeliever or as a hypocrite. If one claims adherence to Islam but disobeys the Koran by refusing to join in the war against Christianity and Israel (often mislabeled as radical Islam), he may justifiably be labeled as an unbeliever and a hypocrite. The same rings true for followers of other religions.
Now if the same logic, or rather, illogical thinking was applied to other areas of society, nothing short of disaster could be expected. Violent criminals are locked away in prisons in order to protect a region's inhabitants from harm. Why? Obviously, individuals such as serial killers, habitual robbers and pedophiles don't see things the way the law makers of the land or the general population does. Does anyone ever say that they should be allowed to live by whatever moral system, ethics, religion, or philosophy they desire and still be socially acceptable? Why are messages that international religious harmony can be achieved still being heard?
There are those who believe in harming others because of their thought pattern, be it caused by a twisted mind and/or adherence to a religion. How are they any less dangerous than a criminal who is jailed because he has no "sacred" writings that instruct him to commit violence against fellow countrymen in service to the gods of street crime? The criminal is imprisoned because his crimes aren't "religiously" backed. He's looked at differently from someone whose crimes and murders do have the backing of a god or of gods.
Is this kind of logic concerning religious harmony just theory without any real world application? Absolutely not. The Voice Of The Martyrs is one of the ministries that report on the atrocities committed against people because of their testimony of Christ as Savior. In countries such as North Korea, China, the Sudan, Pakistan, and recently, India, Christians are being tortured, shunned, persecuted, wrongfully imprisoned, mocked and martyred on a daily basis in very large numbers. Why? Because those who kill them are loyal to their master and the Christians are loyal to theirs (Jesus), and the two don't and cannot agree or ever see religious harmony. Why would anyone expect the followers of two opposing masters to be faithful to each master and not oppose one another?
Matthew 6:24 says, "no man can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will hold to the one and despise the other...." The idea of international religious harmony is not only ludicrous, it is not in agreement with scripture of the Christian Bible.
