Witchcraft in the Church
Is Witchcraft Destroying My Church?
While it might be difficult for some to believe that a growing number of people are actually asking the question, "Is witchcraft destroying my church?", they are asking this and other very disturbing questions for legitimate reasons. Quite some time ago I read the book, "He Came To Set The Captives Free" by Rebecca Brown, MD. Although I don't agree with everything that is taught in the book, I did find it to be a very interesting and enlightening read based on scripture from the Christian Bible.
Dr. Brown is among those who are exposing witchcraft in the church by revealing some of the signs for which the pastor and members should be on the lookout. I was not a believer in Christ the first time I picked this book up; I had simply been attracted to it because of the very graphical cover--so I thought. Anyway, I remember that the author warned that witchcraft in the church can be carried out by real-life witches and warlocks under the noses of people who claim to understand the scriptures and to be led by God. She teaches that these people have no problem attending churches who are "Spirit-filled" in name only because they will go undetected. In fact, if they can "talk the talk," they can fit right into the prayer services, choir, Bible studies, and Sunday school classes.
The Signs of Possible Witchcraft in the Church
Dr. Brown points out many things for which a concerned member should watch. One of the beware signs that should cause suspicion, according to the Christian doctor, was the practice of stopping all biblically-based teaching about Satan so that the people will remain ignorant of his tricks. She reminded of the scripture of II Corinthians 2:11 which reads, "Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices." And then there was the scripture of Hosea 4:6 in which God said, "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge...." While I certainly don't think that Dr. Brown intended to start a "witch hunt," I do think she fully intended to alert people who are willing to face even those truths that are hard--and ugly.
Based on true events, The Third Man by Angela Sheffield, brings the Bible up close and personal as the characters face real issues of life: Betrayal, deceit, romance, bitterness, anger against God, hopelessness, will power, perplexity, triumph, unforgiveness, mental illness, and the "Alcohol made me do it" excuse.
