Lung Infections: Elecampane and Cherry Tree Bark Tea
![lungs.jpg](images/lungs.jpg)
Unfortunately, herbs for lung infections are seldom used in the United States to achieve complete recovery from respiratory problems such as bronchitis or pneumonia. However, all natural herbal treatments for even serious respiratory problems were successfully employed in colonial times. They were the only medicines available.
Although many children who suffer with asthma will "outgrow" the disease, most respiratory ailments will not simply go away. The airway of a child is considerably smaller than that of an adult, causing them to be more susceptible to suffering respiratory distress which could lead to respiratory arrest. Therefore, it might be argued that asthma doesn't really go away, rather as the child grows into an adult, his wider respiratory tract is not so easily affected.
Preparation For A Cure
Ailments such as bronchitis and pneumonia cannot be expected to just go away at any age. They need to be treated promptly; pneumonia is very dangerous--even life threatening and can cause great discomfort. This realization is part of your preparation for a cure. Equally important is the need to cease aggravating the problem. Simple dietary changes such as avoiding milk, especially during treatment, are very helpful.
Cow's milk has a protein called casein which can act like a histamine releaser in the body and aggravate respiratory difficulties.
Obviously, smoking should be stopped as well as exposure to second-hand cigarette smoke and chemicals whether receiving traditional medical care or using herbs for lung infections. If the sufferer is a child, parents or guardians should ensure that he isn't exposed to cigarette smoke, chemicals or scented products, even taking care in the detergent that's used to wash his clothes and bedding.
The Power Of Herbs For Lung Infections
A prescription drug known as Sulfameth might be prescribed for someone diagnosed with bronchitis. Back in the mid 1990's, the bottle warned to avoid exposure to sunlight while taking medication. A young lady's curiosity about such a warning promted her to question her physician regarding the advice. He explained, "Sulfameth, like most of prescription drugs, are poison."
Treating Bronchitis With Elecampane
The root of an herb known as Elecampane is one of the most powerful herbs for lung infections such as bronchitis. It can be purchased in health foods stores that have a good selection of bulk herbs--the only form in which it should be used. Don't allow store clerks to persuade you to buy expensive formulas containing elecampane, rather insist on the bulk herb. This is the safest and most natural way to use herbs. An elecampane decoction should be prepared by gently simmering a heaping teaspoon of the dried and cut root in approximately eight ounces of water for at least 20 minutes. It's then strained and can be sweetened with a natural sweetener such as honey or stevia.
Although elecampane has an awful taste, attempt to drink it without any sweetener at all; it is more effective this way. Also, it should be drank as hot as possible a minimum of three times daily. Don't expect to see results until about three consecutive days of drinking three hot cups. This herb is a powerful expectorant as you'll see if you use it correctly. Don't rely solely on elecampane to get you well if you've been diagnosed with pneumonia. In times past it has been used in conjunction with the herb echinacea to treat pneumonia, but that's only when there was no other medicine or herbs available.
Elecampane is considered to be a very safe herb that can be ingested regularly over a period of two weeks before taking a rest. Pregnant women should always consult with their doctor before using even all natural treatments. Remember, all natural, by no means, denotes weakness. Medicinal herbs are true medicines that must be respected.
Treating Pneumonia With Cherry Tree Bark Tea
You may have also heard of the herb wild black cherry or simply wild cherry. Actually, it is the bark of the cherry tree that is used. If you can obtain wild black cherry, opt for it over wild cherry, but never delay treatment. Few people in the West will trust treating a lung infection as dangerous as pneumonia with herbal medicine unless they are an herbalist. However, there are still many people in the world who rely solely on herbal medicine and who would not trust chemical prescriptions. So, it's a choice you'll have to make for yourself.
If there's any suspicion that a child might have pneumonia, it is urgent that he or she be seen by a medical doctor to receive appropriate treatment. Again, the respiratory system of a child cannot withstand what that of healthy adults can.
Dried and cut cherry bark, like elecampane, should also be sold in a health foods store. Insist on nothing but the bulk herb, organically grown or hand crafted from the wild if possible. Because it is a hard substance, a decoction is made to extract the medicinal properties and nutrients. A heaping teaspoon of the bark is gently simmered in water for at least 20 minutes, it is then strained, and sweetened if you must. However, it's better if you don't use sweetener at all, not even a natural one.
Cherry bark is not as safe to use as elecampane; restrict your use to no more than one or two cups per day for approximately one week. Long before the development of dangerous Sulfameth and other drugs, elecampane and wild (black) cherry served as two of nature's most effective herbs for lung infections.
Based on true events, The Third Man by Angela Sheffield, brings the Bible up close and personal as the characters face real issues of life: Betrayal, deceit, romance, bitterness, anger against God, hopelessness, will power, perplexity, triumph, unforgiveness, mental illness, and the "Alcohol made me do it" excuse.
