Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world
Most health food stores offer at least one brand of herbal cough syrup for people who prefer to rely on all natural medicines as much as possible. But, are health food store medicines truly all natural or do they also contain chemical substances? This question is not easily answered. While a particular brand of herbal medicine is labeled "all natural" because no chemical substances were added, it's not necessarily safe. Why? It's legal for companies to use highly carcinogenic solvents to clean their machinery used to bottle their products. Although only trace amounts of a cleanser may escape into the food or medicine, it is enough to overburden the immune system. The deadly combination of parasites and the solvents benzene and propyl alcohol have been linked to the development of cancer and HIV. Store bought herbal medicines have been found to be polluted with these and other solvents (Hulda Regehr Clark, Ph.D., N.D., The Cure for All Diseases [San Diego: New Century Press, 1995], 354-355, 428).
In times past, people made their own herbal medicines in their home. While it is a positive change for America to rediscover the power of all natural remedies and cures, there's also a negative side. A label reading "all natural" can never be trusted to be truly all natural and harmless like the herbal medicines made in the home. The old way is still the best and the safest.
There's often the need for an effective cough syrup and expectorant in cases of influenza, bronchitis, pneumonia and other respiratory problems. Fortunately, God has provided a wide variety of medicinal plants with very powerful expectorant qualities. One such herb is the dried bark of the wild black cherry tree. If it isn't available, the bark of any wild cherry tree (black or not) may be substituted. The author of this article has personal experience with the amazing medicinal properties of this herb in her own totally natural recovery from pneumonia 5 years ago.
Wild black cherry is not a very gentle herb that can be used to excess and/or for long periods of time. This should not sound strange considering that it is strong enough to be used in cases as serious as pneumonia, chronic asthma and the early stages of tuberculosis (Jethro Kloss, Back to Eden [Loma Linda, CA: Back to Eden Books Publishing Co., 1988], 266).
A very simple and truly all natural, safe and effective cough syrup and expectorant can be made in the home (Michael Tierra, C.A., N.D., The Way of Herbs [New York, NY: Pocket Books, 1989], 36). According to Tierra, one ounce of wild black cherry bark is gently simmered in a quart of water until the volume of liquid is reduced to approximately one pint. The decoction is then strained and 2 ounces of honey is added while still hot. This pleasant tasting herbal cough syrup and expectorant is used in doses of one teaspoon as needed.
The honey may be totally substituted with vegetable glycerin for parents who would like to give the syrup to children under the age of one since they should not ingest honey. However, it's extremely important to use only a 100 percent vegetable glycerin that is sold as food grade. Dosage for children under one year should be reduced to one half teaspoon.
Based on true events, The Third Man by Angela Sheffield, brings the Bible up close and personal as the characters face real issues of life: Betrayal, deceit, romance, bitterness, anger against God, hopelessness, will power, perplexity, triumph, unforgiveness, mental illness, and the "Alcohol made me do it" excuse.
