Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Millions of Americans drink soda pop on a regular basis, mostly for taste and out of habit. Unfortunately, most all carbonated drinks are either sweetened with sugar or a sugar substitute and are practically void of nutrition. The high sugar content in soda pops only compounds the nationwide problem of obesity, tooth decay, and habitual drinking of these carbonated drinks has even been associated with a higher risk of developing pancreatic cancer (Ben Kage). The popular flavored waters also tend to be dangerous to your health due to the artificial flavorings added to give them taste and artificial colors to make them appealing to the eye.
Fortunately, there's a healthier alternative to the health destroying soda pops widely sold in this country. You can learn how to make your own carbonated drinks at home. There are only two very simple ingredients needed to make your own carbonated drinks of various flavors that will appeal to the entire family and to friends. Equal parts of a carbonated water such as the famous Perrier and fruit juice consisting of 100% juice are mixed and then chilled, or each ingredient is chilled separately beforehand.
These homemade soda pops are carbonated from the water, flavored and sweetened from the fruit juice which also provides nutrients such as vitamins and minerals, particularly vitamin C. The choice of flavors for the pops is almost endless and can be easily customized to suit the maker of these drinks. Orange juice combined with carbonated water produces an orange flavored pop. Grape juice yields a grape flavored drink and apple juice rewards with a refreshing apple flavored drink. Although they're more expensive, cherry and pineapple juice increase the variety of flavors you can enjoy, not to mention the mixing of these natural juices before they're combined with the water to create a unique blend of flavors.
If a natural pop similar to 7-UP or Sprite is desired, you have only to add an extra ingredient--a natural sweetener such as honey (preferably raw), maple syrup, or a stevia extract. Lemons and/or limes provide the citrus flavor while allowing for the pop's color to remain as clear as possible. The sweetener is then added if maple syrup or stevia is the choice. If honey is the preferred sweetener, it should be mixed into room temperature carbonated water to facilitate blending.
Remember, if you've a desire to reduce intake of calories, stevia should be the preferred sweetener. Orange juice is also quite high in calories.
If the consumption of a carbonated beverage produces hiccups, these drinks should be avoided. However, such is not the case with many Americans. Therefore, learning how to make your own carbonated drinks will prove to be a welcomed substitute for the unnatural and unhealthy soda pops causing so much sickness in American society.
