The Limited Power of Positive Thinking: Law of Attraction Versus the Law of God
Alexander the Great: His Power of Positive Thinking
The number of biblical prophecies that foretold the fall of the great empire of ancient Babylon exceeds 100, most of which are found in the Old Testament books of Isaiah and Jeremiah. For example, the scripture of Isaiah 13:19-22 predicted, "And Babylon, the glory of the Chaldees' excellency, shall be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah. It shall never be inhabited, neither shall it be dwelt in from generation to generation; neither shall the Arabian pitch tent there; neither shall the shepherds make their fold there. But wild beasts of the desert shall lie there, and their houses shall be full of doleful creatures; and owls shall dwell there, and satyrs shall dance there. And the wild beasts of the islands shall cry in their desolate houses and dragons (hyenas and jackals) in their pleasant palaces (where palaces used to be); and her time is near to come and her days shall not be prolonged."
One thing that can be said about biblical prophecy is that it is very precise and specific, unlike other sources of "prophecy" which remain so vague and obscure that any event can be forced to fit the prediction. Specificity is crucial to establishing genuineness because if all is not fulfilled to the letter, revelation as a fraud results. Not one of the biblical prophecies foretelling the desolation of ancient Babylon failed, rather they have been fulfilled down to the most specific detail just as all of the other prophecies will be because they were spoken by inspiration of God (II Peter 1:20). What does any of this have to do with the power of positive thinking and the law of attraction?
According to the Discover Channel premiere, "The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World," Alexander the Great was told by his mother that his real father was the supreme Greek god, Zeus. Historians understandably believe that when he visited the statue of Zeus at Olympia, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, it held special significance for him. It's said that he may have even asked his "father" to bless his upcoming wars to conquer even more territory. Although it probably was not called the law of attraction; undoubtedly, the same teachings about the "law" existed because there's really no new thing under the sun according to the scripture of Ecclesiastes 1:9-10.
It's also logical to believe that Alexander the Great, considering himself a demi-god, had no reason not to exercise the power of positive thinking, especially in light of his amazing achievements at such a young age. However, despite the "
blessings" from his "father" Zeus, his power of positive thinking, and any belief in a law of attraction, he would never live to carry out his plan to rebuild ancient Babylon to establish it as the capital of his empire. God had already declared that ancient Babylon was never to be rebuilt. Alexander the great died at the age of 32 before he could even attempt to carry out his plans. The power of
positive thinking is great--but not greater than the power of the word of God.
