God Help Me
God Please Help Me!
Millions of people who have lived even one decade on Earth have had a rude awakening to the fact that this present world is a very miserable and extremely dangerous place to be. The God-inspired authors of what is now known as the Christian Bible never attempted to hide or even soften such a truth. It is repeatedly recorded, however, that God wills to help and deliver his people who call on him. He also inspires his saints, by his Spirit, to make intercession before his throne for the help and deliverance he wants to offer to those who can't call on him because they don't know him or are too young to pray, "God, help me."
Encouragement to actively seek and ask the Lord to help, deliver, and rescue from spiritual and/or natural oppression is seen in the teachings of the prophets, the apostles, and of the Lord Jesus himself.
"And he (Jesus) spake a parable unto them to this end that men ought always to pray and not to faint, saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man. And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary. And he would not for a while. But, afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man; yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me. And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith. And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them? I tell you that he will avenge them speedily...." (KJV, Luke 18:1-8).
This parable is a wonderful reminder that not only does vengeance belong exclusively to God, he hears the prayer, "God, help me." Its not hard to see that the widow was clearly asking the unjust judge to help her and though help wasn't given immediately, she was delivered of her troubles and oppression from enemies.
The Gods Help Those Who Help Themselves
The Lord who inspired the biblical scriptures does not operate like idol gods. Nevertheless, it is true that those who will pray, "God, help me," must also be willing to help themselves. The woman in the parable of the unjust judge is seen helping herself in her actions and determination in continually going before the judge.
A Real Life Answer to the Prayer, "God, Help Me"
Vanessa Winters, a youth counselor, certified Christian life coach, and one of Heavenly Manna's team members, witnessed the real life answer to the prayer, "God, help me," lifted by a little girl with whom she worked in the past. This girl's parents did not desire genuine help for their daughter or for her to learn of Jesus and the Christian faith. Therefore, they used their parental rights to block any attempts to give the child help based on counsel from the Christian Bible.
Ms. Winters, the little girl, and the other children, however, could not be stopped from praying. As the girl prayed, "God, help me out of this situation and to learn about you," others joined her in such petitions. It was a matter of weeks before she was able to rejoin Ms. Winters and the other children for Bible study and church attendance. The Lord heard the
prayer, "God, please help me," and he answered it.
"And it shall come to pass that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved" (Acts 2:21).
An important truth that should be kept in mind when praying, "God, help me" and desiring God to deliver from spiritual and/or physical trouble is the need to turn away from sin. "...The Lord knoweth them that are his. And let every one that nameth the name of
Christ depart from iniquity" (2 Timothy 2:19).
