Does God Really Hear Prayer?
Those who believe they've received an answer to their prayers for a particular thing would affirm that God does indeed answer prayer. Those who don't believe they've received an answer to their prayers may tend to reject faith in prayer. What about the people who haven't asked God for anything at all? What about the people who are still seeking answers for why they don't see results after having lifted their prayer requests? Are there any concrete answers for them? Yes, the Bible does give some across-the-board instruction and information on receiving answers to prayer. This doesn't mean that after learning them believers will never face being confused. It can, however, prove vital to one's survival during the trial of his faith. It also serves as a reminder to those who refuse to abandon a life of habitual sin that willful disobedience to God always ends up proving to be more costly than obedience.
The Christian Bible on Prayer Requests
So, does God answer prayer or not? According to scripture, the answer to such a question would be both yes and no because it depends on the spiritual state of the person making the prayer. All prayer is not equal in the eyes of God according to the Christian Bible. The New Testament scripture of James 5:16-18 reminds that, "...The efectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months. And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain and the earth brought forth her fruit."
The scripture pointed out two things. First, the prayer of a righteous man avails much so obviously it is heard. Second, the righteous man who prays fervently and earnestly receives what he requests. Numerous people will choose to live in sin to have the life they desire without regard for God's commandments. Many of these same people turn to prayer when trouble or tragedy strikes, but fail to also turn to righteousness. Jesus preached in plain language when he commanded the people saying, "Repent ye..." (Mark 1:15).
What does repenting have to do with getting one's prayers heard? Absolutely everything. God wants to hear and answer earnest and fervent prayer requests from people, but those people must do his will in order to be righteous. St. John 9:31 says, "Now we know that God heareth not sinners. But, if any man be a worshiper of God and doeth his will, him he heareth."
