Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Jesus said, "After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven..." (Matthew 6:9, KJV)
It is very fitting for Christ to tell His servants to pray, "Our Father which art in heaven", because He is the One who gives every one of His true follwers sonship. In other words, the status of son or daughter of God, which makes God the Father of all true followers of Jesus of Nazareth. We stress that only followers of Christ are to pray, "Our Father, which aret in heaven." Why? Because those who do not live in obedience to Christ are NOT the children of God. That is not opinion. That is according to the Christian Bible. We are not born children of God. We must first confess our sins, receive Christ as Savior and Lord, and begin living in obedience to Him in order to become a son or daughter of God. We read, "But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name." (St. John 1:12).
The fact that Christ gives us power to BECOME children of God tells us that we were not born His children.
AFTER we repent and begin walking with Christ, we learn why we then pray, "Our Father, which art in heaven." We read, "And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your heart, crying, Abba, Father." (Galatians 4:6)
It is Christ's joy to gain siblings. And those siblings are men, women and children who receive Him as Lord and Savior. Jesus paid the ultimate price for this. He paid with His life. Therefore, as we call His Father our Father (God is His Father), we continually express the spiritual adoption He made possible for us at Calvary. This is also why we at HeavenlyManna.net do not believe in prayer being directed to the Holy Spirit. Christ told us to direct our prayer to the Father, so that is what we should do. He endured a tortuous death to make it possible for us to be adopted by God Himself. Gaining God as heavenly Father is not only the believer's joy. It is also God the Father-s joy and the joy of Christ who is God the Son.
We read, "Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross..." (Hebrews 12:2)
We make our requests in Jesus' name (St. John 14:13). But the request should be directed to God the Father.
Based on true events, The Third Man by Angela Sheffield, brings the Bible up close and personal as the characters face real issues of life: Betrayal, deceit, romance, bitterness, anger against God, hopelessness, will power, perplexity, triumph, unforgiveness, mental illness, and the "Alcohol made me do it" excuse.
