The True Story Of A Christian Who Fell Victim To Witchcraft
Below is the excerpt from a true short story of a young Christian woman who fell victim to the working of witchcraft. She lived under the effects of the curse for many years, because she did not give the right response. Her thought was, "God doesn't care about me, otherwise, He'd help me. He wouldn't have allowed witchcraft to ruin my life." She thought God had abandoned her. Indeed, because of witchcraft, her husband left her. And she had problems on all of her jobs, which is exactly what they had told her would happen...among other problems that were directly related to the curse. But, where was God while the witchcraft was turning her world upside down? Where was God while everything around her was falling apart?
We've Fixed You! The True Story Of A Curse By Witchcraft
Beginning of 100-word story (drabble):
"Sorry to bother you so early, but my car broke down. Could I please use your phone?"
Sandra hesitated at the site of Marlena, questions racing through her mind. "Uh, yeah. Come in. Phone's over there."
Marlena stepped in, and turned a distressed face to Sandra.
"Can I use your bathroom? I gotta go really bad?"
"That way. To the right." Sandra responded.
Seconds later, Marlena exited, said "thanks", and left...without using the phone.
Sandra's photo and comb were now missing. Days later, mysterious trouble haunted her, as did the words of Marlena's friend when she told Sandra, "We fixed you!"
Questions To Ponder
1. Had we not told you you this drabble deals with witchcraft, what would you have thought Marlena's friend meant by, "We've fixed you!"?
2. What do you think were some of the thoughts / questions that raced through Sandra's mind?
The Christian Response To Being The Victim Of Witchcraft
Another way of saying, "the Christian response" is "the response of faith." Sandra stopped consulting Christians concerning her mysterious problems caused by the curse they had put on her, because the only thing people told her was that witchcraft was powerless against the believer. But she wasn't buying it, because everything her enemies had predicted would happen was indeed happening...no matter how much she prayed. What Sandra didn't realize was that she needed to get rid of the bitterness and accusations against God. She needed to stop falling into the trap of thinking God didn't care about her, because those thoughts weakened her prayers. There is a reason why the Bible says to bring every thought captive to the obedience of Christ. (2 Corinthians 10:5).
She needed to forgive her enemies so her prayers would not be hindered. And when she saw she was in the midst of a spiritual battle, she needed to dress in all the armor of God through constant prayer in the Spirit. Because yes, the evil spirits of witchcraft and sorcery have power. They make war against us. That's why we read, "Put on the whole armor of God that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day. And having done all to stand, stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness, and your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace. Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints." (Ephesians 6:11-18).
The woman called Sandra in this true story has overcome in Christ. She no longer fears witchcraft. And she would not have had to endure so many years under its power had she followed instructions from the Bible. Now then, you might ask, "But if the Christian is truly protected by God, why did the curse have power against her in the first place?"
What Jesus Reveals About The Spiritual Authority His Sheep (Followers) Have
In Christian circles it's said that every follower of Christ has authority in Jesus' name. Although that is true, it's not that cut and dried. A Christian who does not maintain a prayer life, does not fast, and does not study the Bible is incapable of remaining strong in certain battles. What soldier would go to war without weapons and protective gear? We've just read about the necessity to dress in the whole armor of God to have the victory when evil spirits attack us. And how do we do that? Answer: "Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints." (Ephesians 6:18). The spirits behind any work of witchcraft are evil. All of them are satanic. They are demons, devils, principalities and powers. They are spirits that war against us when a curse has been sent our way. Only in Jesus do we win the battle.
And let's not forget that Jesus told us to fast in order to grow our faith, "our" authority in His name. In chapter 17 of Matthew, we read of when Jesus' disciples were unable to cast out an evil spirit. They asked Him why they couldn't cast the spirit out. Let's read the short conversation Jesus had with His disciples after He delivered the young man. We read, "Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out? And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief. For verily I say unto you, if ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove. And nothing shall be impossible unto you. Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting." (Matthew 17:19-21).
If we want to grow our faith in God, "our" spiritual authority in the name of Jesus, we have to have a life of prayer. We must fast and study God's Word, which is our sword. We must put on the whole armor of God by following all the Lord's instructions.
