Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Someone once pointed out that it cannot be truthfully said that no death occurred in paradise (Eden) based on what is stated in the biblical book of Genesis. Scripture reads, "And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat" (KJV, Genesis 2:16). Subsequent scripture reveals that only the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil was forbidden in paradise. Therefore, Adam and Eve freely ate the fruits and other plant life that existed in the garden. Are not plants alive? If they do not receive the things they need such as water and sunlight, they die. Only what has been alive is capable of dying.
According to scientists, fruits and vegetables also are alive. This makes sense as they eventually spoil, and die. Students in schools across the world are taught that although plant life is very different from animal life, it is still a form of life.
Someone once pointed out that it is very apparent that God did not view the consumption of fruits and herbs in the garden of Eden as the death of plant life, because he revealed what HIS definition of life on earth is. The passage of Leviticus 17:10-11 reads, "And whatsoever man there be of the house of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn among you, that eateth any manner of blood; I will even set my face against that soul that eateth blood, and will cut him off from among his people. For the LIFE of the flesh is in the blood...."
Simply put, plants do not have blood like animals do. Therefore, they are viewed differently in the eyes of God. The Bible speaks of killing the fatted calf to make a meal (Luke 15:27). But, it never speaks of killing a fruit, herb, vegetable, or any other plant life.
Yes, according to man, a creature of God, death occurred in the garden of Eden. However, according to God, the Creator of man, physical death occurred when blood had to be shed for the remission of sins.
Based on true events, The Third Man by Angela Sheffield, brings the Bible up close and personal as the characters face real issues of life: Betrayal, deceit, romance, bitterness, anger against God, hopelessness, will power, perplexity, triumph, unforgiveness, mental illness, and the "Alcohol made me do it" excuse.
