Is Your Computer Making You Sick? Protect Yourself from Electromagnetic Fields
If you think your computer is making you sick, you can be certain that it is. Don't ignore the signs and symptoms of prolonged exposure to electromagnetic fields...computer radiation in common language. The health hazards caused by WIFI and computer radiation even include various forms of cancer. In this article, we won't bother with statistics, or boring and complicated terms related to electromagnetic fields. If your computer is making you sick, you probably just want to fix the problem as quickly and easily as possible, without studying unfamiliar terms.
Shielding Against Computer Radiation
If you must work on a computer for extended periods, one way to protect yourself from dangerous radiation is to shield the offending equipment. A company called LessEMF Inc. (LessEMF.com) sells shielding devices that really do work. You will feel the difference right away. (No, we are not affiliated with LessEMF.) If you're among the people who want to prove the effectiveness of their products, you can purchase meters to measure greatly reduced output of radiation. So what are those products? We'll just cover three basic products that are affordable, easy to use, and most effective: VeilShield, WrapTop and Tower Shield.
There are dozens of more products into which you can look if your computer is making you sick. However, we will get you started with these three that we have personally tested.
VeilShield is a highly transparent fine mesh fabric containing nickel and copper, and is used to cover your computer monitor to block the electric field. Yes, you can easily see through it. We discovered that if you spend hours a day at the monitor, you really want to totally encase it in VeilShield. In order to protect you from radiation from your monitor, the metalicized fabric must be grounded. LessEMF.com sells the ground cords for around $8.00. You simply make contact with the fabric through the alligator clip, which is one end of the cord. The other is a three-pronged electrical connection that's plugged in like any ground cord. Be sure to stretch the fabric over the front part of the monitor so as not to interfere with seeing your work. It's okay for it to be bunched up in the back, so long as good contact is made through the alligator clip.
VeilShield is sold in linear feet for around $18.00 per foot. One linear foot is enough fabric to cover the front of two average size monitors. If you are using a laptop, we'd advise you to use the entire foot to wrap the entire laptop.
Now let's take a look at WrapTop. It is a white metal "casing" with the sides open into which you slip the keyboard (bottom part) of your laptop to help to guard against the magnetic field generated from using laptops. Yes, even after covering the entire laptop in VeilShield to protect against the electric and radio fields, you should still slip the keyboard / bottom part into the WrapTop. The sides are open to allow easy access to the DVD drive, USB and other ports. Again, you will witness the difference immediately! The WrapTop costs around $70.00. It is well worth it.
Finally, if your desktop computer is making you sick, you might want to also purchase the Tower Shield for around $40.00. It's made of fabric, and slips over the tower, after which you can zip it down to fit tightly over the tower.
Protecting Yourself from Dangerous WiFi
The best way to protect your household from the health hazards of WiFi is simply not to use it. Opt for wired connections instead. The more people demand wired devices, the more they will be in demand. If your internet service provider gave you a modem that provides both wireless and DSL, you should be able to disable wireless (the radio signal) via a control panel provided by the company. If it did not come with instructions for how to do this, ask. Insist that they show you how to turn down and even disable the wireless signal. Another option would be to turn the signal's strength down to 10 percent...strong enough to connect to any device within the room, without pumping throughout your home. It is a harmful and ridiculous decision of the service providers to turn the signal strength up to 100 percent by default. That's strong enough to reach several of your neighbors! Imagine the harm it's doing to your family's health. When not in use, WiFi should be turned completely off.
Writers, Consider Writing on a Word Processing Machine
The Alpha NEO2 by Apple is a dedicated word processing machine on which you can comfortably write your articles, stories, poems, or whatever it is that you write. This way, you don't have to stay away from your writing just because your computer is making you sick.
The NEO2 is pictured at the beginning of this article to give you an idea of what it looks like. Apple discontinued the manufacture of these wonderful devices. However, you can still purchase them on Amazon.com and Ebay for $15.00 to $45.00 roughly. We recommend purchasing from Renaissance on Ebay that sells the NEO2 for around $15.00 plus $10.00 shipping.
For those of you who are used to saving and transferring files with USB drives, also known as pen or jump drives, you'll find that the transfer process with the NEO2 is a little different. You simply connect it to your computer via a printer cable, and press "send" to transfer the content of your file to your computer. It does NOT mount like a USB drive. Remember, this is an Apple product that can be used with platforms running Windows. We've used it with Windows 7, but have not tested it with any of the Linux distros. When you press "send", the file begins to transfer by typing into the text editor or word processor you opened on your computer. Like magic, all that you typed on the NEO2 types into the editor's or processor's window. You don't want to do anything else on your computer while your file is transferring. Once the transfer is complete, you can then save your file to any directory on your computer you'd like, while retaining the original on the NEO2.
This wonderful word processing device runs on two AA batteries that last and last. Some say you can go for as many as 700 hours before changing the batteries. Even the cheapest of batteries give you amazingly long life with the NEO2. Please note that although you can print directly from the NEO2, we have not had good luck with getting it to print with all-in-ones, only with the good "old-fashioned" straight printers. We have yet to see if it will print with laser printers.
So then, if your computer is making you sick, you have options. Shield when you must work on the computer. Opt for wired connections over WiFi. And, return to the use of word processing devices and electronic typewriters to get away from the computer.
Join the people who are requesting Apple to return to the manufacture of the NEO2 by writing a short letter or quick note, asking for its return. Their address is:
